RCM muggy mount question. - 03.22.2009, 12:02 AM

Does anyone know how small of a pinion can be used with the muggy mount with a 39mm diamter motor (hacker c50 xl)?

Just wondering as a 13-14t pinion would be perfect for what I want to do. I have a feeling it will fit, as I got down to a 12t with no issues with Mike's hyper mount and the same motor, but I want to make sure...

Also could I put a kyosho spur on the muggy center diff? Not sure if I will, just want to know if I can.... This thing is heavy, so a steel spur is most likely mandatory...

Not sure about the RCM mount, I have done 12/46 on my muggy with home made mount and finned neu. There is nothing in the way, so if the slots are long enough in the mount (I suspect they are), it should be no problem. The kyosho spurs will fit the center diff, but some cups may need a touch of sanding around the edges to fit. I had one that i had chucked in a drill and ran on sandpaper for several seconds and fit perfect. The other problem I had was the screw heads would rub on the factory diff support, I had at first just countersunk the holes a bit farther, but later found a different brand of screws with slightly smaller heads so I did not have to redo the countersink every time I replaced the spur. That being said, I replaced the plastic spur several times before I just went to metal gears, the muggy is awful heavy and with a powerful setup, can be quite hard on the plastic gears.

You can also fit the steel spur from the losi eight-e, it's 45t. It's a direct fit, part# losa3552.
Losi also has plastic spurs for the 8ight, down to 43t (losa3560). They should also be a direct fit.

im running the kyosho 46t spur/15t p with a CC 2200kv on 6s I think its geared for around 65mph. I could easily put a 12t pinion on there. I had to put 2 shims on the rcm mount side bearing to move the spur out a tad and its perfect. Run 8 packs through it jumping off skate ramps and general wheelies and flipping and high speed chases through parks and neighborhoods, nothings broken..... yet.. though I did thermal my Monster lastnight driving wot in grass for 25 minutes last evening.

Good info guys. I ordered the rcm mount last night. I will most likely leave the metal spur, cause the muggy is heavy. We will see... I plan to run a hacker c50 11xl with a mmm and fp 4500 30c 6s lipo. Looks like a 13t pinion wil give me around 40mph. I will also run some badlands, trying to keep this truck light (like pushing water up a wall, I know!), or at least not trying to make it really heavy!
