Battery tray gone - 04.25.2009, 09:48 AM

After letīs say... around 12 packs using it, yesterday I removed the battery without noticing anything, later I removed the body to show the insides of the car and then I noticed this

It only took a small effort with my finger to give it away. I guess this is not usual, isnīt it? Guess itīs just bad luck, cos there wasnīt any specially hard crash, or maybe the battery is too big for this thin wall (rhino 3700 6s1p).

That is unusual. It's such a clean, consistent looking shear plane, almost like it had been cut!

Im just guessing here . But it looks like your battery slid one to many times in the tray against one of the ends, & thus your tray broke. What i always did & would suggest you do in the furture is put some velco on the battery & bottom of the lipo. That will keep your lipo from sliding. Also i always ran my srap from FR to RR not side to side .

Or you could get a custom fit tray for a specific size batt. like I do. Every vehicle I have has a RCM custom tray specific to certain batteries to insure that the batts. stay tight in the tray.

Well worth the few extra $ IMO

My batteries fit quite tight inside so I donīt think it caused the breakage, I may be ordering one custom but with a bit more thickness. My batteries are loose only on the long side but I get rid of it with some sponge. This is the second tray I use, the first one broke too but I had removed one full side so that wasnīt a surprise. This one did surprise me.

Sorry if I missed it, but what tray is it that you are using? Home Made?

Might be a RCM tray.

Glue that sucker back together with some epoxy/ jbweld- such a clean break it would only require a little bit of sanding to get smooth/level edges. A little L-shaped brace made from aluminum at either end would help alot too.
