XT8 - selecting the right system - 05.02.2009, 02:29 PM

Hi, since this is exactly the place to ask this. I would like to be sure that my plans are correct.

Xray XT8 with mount & chassis brace from Mike.
Castle Mamba Monster Combo 2200 KV
4s lipo for start 5s for racing, maybe 6s if I can handle it... (is this stupid?)
gearing is what I want to ask about. I want to use Mike slipperential, which is 46... so 11-15/46 , can you give me your suggestions?

I am waiting for mount, so nothing has been bought so far, so I can alter my selection to anything on the market (which will cost about the same)

thanks for any suggestions and cheers..

This speed calculator made by BrianG was designed to help with this exact question.

Just plug in the values for the XT8, and play around with the gearing for the speed you want. I would also recommend 4s for racing, and the 5s for bashing.5s on pretty much all tracks will be way too fast/powerful on a 2200KV motor. With 4s, you can gear up or down depending on the track. 6s is just ridiculous on a 2200KV motor, but it can be done, so if you can handle it, go for it!

HI

yup I know about that one, but what I don't know is, if 30 mph is ok on track with truggy, or 40? or 60? :)

I am SO looking forward to try it ;)

Depending on your track, driving style and temps aim for high 30's to low 40's. Between the guys using 2200kv motors that I race with (neu 1515 1y, or the CC version of that motor) we've used between 12t and 16t pinions, and all seem to work ok, it's just depends what works for you. Personally I am running 46/13 and am happy, but others want a little more top end.
I'm not sure if anyone here that I race with has tried 5s with 2200kv during a race, but 2 guys have used the 1515 2d (2050kv) for racing on 5s and liked it. Certainly more power, but not uncontrollable. 2200kv will be a bit faster, but fairly close. Gear down at least 1 or 2 teeth if going from 4s to 5s. Best to see how you go on 4s and decide after that.
I think 6s with that motor will be too much for racing. I'm not sure how well it will work gearing done enough to be usable...I should try some day.

Well that basically means, get 11 13 15 pinions , try how it runs on 4s and if 15/46 is not fast enough, go to 5s and go again... and of course see how temperatures will go up...

thanks guys.

If you do use 5s, a 13t pinion is the biggest I would use for racing.

I'm sure it wont be long before its back in stock. He usually isn't out of stock for to long on those items he has control over. Its the motors that seem to be out for long periods due to delays in getting them from manufacturers.
