My first Home-made Carbon Fiber Part (E-revo motor mount) - 05.08.2009, 03:56 PM

I thought i would share this with you guys, all i used to make this was a dremel with various bits. I thought it turned out pretty good for my first attempt working with carbon fiber.

Here ya go:

as you can see the carbon is a little bit thicker (and it feels quite a bit stiffer too!)

As you can see i still have a nit left, i need to figure out what i want to make!

the carbon was also a little thicker than manufacturer specs, but i see that as a good thing!

Cool ... how long did it take you? Did you wet it down before hitting it with the dremel? Nice job man.

Thanks for the compliment!! I love making this stuff for my car too, way more fun than just buying parts off the shelf. Now if only i have an autoclave....then i wouldn't even need to buy pre-made carbon!!!

Looks perfect- you should make more and sell them, lots of people ask about CF motor mounts for the traxxas MTs- the old 3906 one is most commonly sought after.

You could make some shock towers too, match the bulk mounting points, but maybe tweak the shock mounting points to allow for a wider range of options- something like the gorillamaxx, FLM or UE setups perhaps?...

Stock was 17.4 grams, carbon version of the same mount (slightly thicker) was 10.5 grams.

It doesn't seem like a big weight difference being about 7 grams but percentage you shaved about 35% of the weight and I'm sure it's stronger. Your also the only one that has one like it! Very nice!
