what is going on with my MMM V3? - 05.20.2009, 02:50 AM

Hey guys it is late in NYC and I cant sleep so I figured I'd make my first post on here. I am not a newbie but am clueless after -some- testing as to what is wrong with my MMM.

I built my Savage Flux from ebay parts so I could use what is good and ditch what is bad, and I bought the normal MMM combo instead of the HPI label. Anyway, I have been running it on 4s with 20t pinion (used 3 times in 3-4 months) and I finally got some 3s packs to use. I went to change my pinion gear to 25T and did a single blip throttle test on the motor before installing and it worked fine. I installed everything back and took a 10 minute drive to go run it on an enormous open parking lot and I heard a glitchy noise. I thought my Spektrum was glitching. So I tried playing with wires...I braided the esc to Rx wire, my servo is a TG 7959 hitec so I thought maybe I need a bec. so I go to pick up my truck and blip the throttle again (the servo was working) and I notice the esc fan goes when I blip the throttle lol.

So... it seems like a glitching issue with the spektrum pro....but, why would the fan go on with the throttle? I use Trakpower 2s and flightpower 3s. What could be wrong here?

Oh..forgot to mention that when I blip the throttle you see the fan come on as per throttle input and the motor I guess moves slightly because the spur rocks a tic and then I stop. I also checked the light chart sticky above and re confirmed that the LED indicates I'm good to go but does not work anyway.

25T on 6s in a flux? hasn't this issue be discussed to death? I'm surprised you didnt explode your lipos and esc, no matter what you were running... try a 15T instead.

hasnt been discussed by me.... and I am just going by HPI gearing charts. I havent run it on 6s yet obviously because it never started up :) I dont understand all of the nonsense with the flux and MMM, I dont hear issues with the E revo ERBE.

Anyway, I blipped the throttle with the motor out of the truck with the 25t pinion on to make sure all was good with my new batteries/connections etc, and then put it in the truck and then the weird thing happened. I tried it again and it happened again. It makes a glitching noise. I re armed both the esc and rx/tx countless times. And the fan responds to my throttle inputs LOL. I have had several castle products and this is my first issue. 15T pinion with a 44T spur seems way low if you ask me.

Go back and check out your LVC settings. When I hit the LVC on mine then try and punch the throttle it seems like it glitches and the fan comes on. Could be you still have the LVC set for 6s if you are not running auto lipo and it is cutting out.

As far as problems with the flux, most I have seen are user error. Like people adding 4 punds of tire and wheel to their truck then trying to reach 70 mph off road.

You stepped up the voltage AND geared up at the same time? This is not generally advised. If anything, you step up the voltage and REDUCE the pinion. Otherwise, heavy currents will flow.

The HPI gearing charts are not recommended gearing charts, just info to show what the gearing will do. If you want to reach the 62mph speeds with 6s you have to change to the phatlines and use the 25t pinion. If you plan to keep the stock tires I doubt the will be controllable over much more than 50mph. A 15-16t pinion will produce the same speed on 6s as the 20t pinion does on 4s. I think a 17t pinion would be about right for 6s and the stock tires.

I will add that i am kinda sick of the whole 4s - 6s crap. Just pick a voltage and stick with it. So many people who have little to no brushless experience are buying these vehicles and want to run both voltages with no gearing change. Just not a good idea, but it is hard to talk sense to some people...

texas, you might be right I'll check that out. Lincpimp.... I do have phaltlines mounted. I know the HPI chart seems wacky but I'll always try their ideas first. Like any model, you try factory settings first, and I was waiting for more people to blow up their ESCs which is why I didnt run the truck more then a few times after owning it since 1 week after launch. I have others to play with that are more tested to me (1/10 scale primarily).

Thanks for the input so far I'll go check now to see if I overlooked the CL settings. If I did, then I am a dick lol.
