wiring 2x controllers in parallel to....??

i would like to run my 2x lehner 4200's with 2x schulze 18.61k controllers on 12cells.

for example, i know it is possible to run 2x 6cell packs in parallel to run a total of 12cells. is it possible to run both of the controllers sharing 12cells (i.e. running the controllers in parallel)?

It is possible as well as pretty easy to do, but you likely won't be happy with the end result! The runtime is pretty nill when running two controllers from one pack of batteries.
I did it a couple years ago(with almost the same setup you are talking about, actually). The runtime was about 4 minutes! A better idea is to run each controller to its own set of batteries(8 cells per controller/motor will get you tons of power and a nice runtime as well).

i was going to run 7cells each, but i thought maybe 12 would be a lot better. i think 8cell packs would be too long.

they are going in my custom wild dagger.

Sweet truck! 7 cells would work if you use a receiver pack. Otherwise, you risk the controllers cuting out when the voltage drops(been there, done that). You could also make the 8 cell packs with the two extra cells on a wire and install them on top(6 cells in each holder and the 2 two cell packs on top). With all the work you have into this sweet rig, mounting up a couple extra cells shouldn't be too tough!

Hey Justin!

Maybe you should stick with the seperate 7-cell packs, one going into each controller? Or do as Mike says and somehow get an extra cell on each pack. That should give you decent runtime and power. You can't go too high on the voltage for the 4200's so that's really the limiting factor. She should fly on 8 (16) cells. :D

Do you have modified gears and diffs? steel, aluminum,etc...

I ran dual xl 4200s in an emaxx they pull alot of amps your 18.61 will have alot of trouble with them. Also since they pull lots of amps if you ran both off one pack you will slag the pack pretty quick. I had to run my 4200s off cadnica C cells and not sub c cells since I had so much trouble with amp draw and batteries burning up

He's going to use basic 4200 and not basic xl 4200, BTY. the xl 4200 can easily suck 95 amps and that is why you were having all that trouble. I wonder if the basic 4200 would save him any trouble?!!

actually a xl 4200 can pull upto 160 amps in a MT, yeah I just re read his post, the 18.61 should be good for basic 4200, I would write shulze and see if your controllers are compatable to run together, I remember back in rumrunner days some had troubles doing dually with shulze. but if you ran dual 4200 off one pack you could get into amp draw troubles and hell of a voltage drop too off one batt pack since you will be pulling in 80amps times 2, so a total of 160 amps would surley ruin your batts, I would be happy to get 10 runs out of a setup like that and then have to replace batts

I recommend him not take anything from schulze when it comes to dual systems and go for the BK 7020 controllers instead. Two of these controllers will cost you less than 400 dollars, but two 18.60 is far beyond 400. Think twice befor you go for it.

also the 4200 motors 7018 controllers do well in dually, just do not try 24 cells, I had to wait 8 months for replacements of 2 controlers
