That's why we try to stay out of the "rating game." If we used the same ratings as another company (who shall remain nameless) the Mamba Monster would be a 2200A controller.

just curious, i know most industrial equipment under rate all their stuff to retain a specific FOS (factor of safety)......is there no standard?


example. if a company tests a ESC at 400A, then they rate if for 200A...

just a tohught, i think the industry needs a standard

That's what I've been trying to get at, but some people will still fall for the over rated product. People fail to understand simple electronics. One rule that I like to go by is: What ever the continuous rate of a ESC is, use it as the max cont. burst for hard accelerations only. A few smart ones knows best that there's no bloody way any small ESC can deliver anywhere near 200A on a continuous bases. With that said, Castle Creations, Tekin and a few of others will not over rate their ESC like many do. So yes, the hobby industry does need a standard to be set, but we also need the manufacturers to come clean as well.

are you talking about hobbwing and their 150a esc with a claim of 1080a burst? i heard that the 2 ESCs are not all that different. they supposedly use the same mosfets.

There should be some standard and I think the mfg's you mentioned do follow this. However the problem comes in with these knock-off companies that make something that works ok and then bogus numbers fly. When I was boating heavily, their was a claim on a Hobbycity esc of 2-6s capable, but when questioned, they stated the ESC shouldn't be used on more than 4s applications....
