Battery question of the month - 07.17.2009, 02:04 AM

OK, any suggestions on what would be a good set of batteries to run in series on my Tekin RX8 2250 system, running a 69T 48P Spur with a 16T Pinion. I have 2 SMC 5000mah 7.4 2S batteries now. But I am looking to get some more speed out of the truck. For better referance this is the truck i am asking it for.
http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21161

here are the specs on the RX8

Input Voltage: up to 6S Lipo
Continuous Current: 210 Amps*
BEC: 6.0V/5.0A
Motor Limit Brushless Mode: No Limit

More speed=more Volts, not sure how big of a pack(s) you could put in there but since the esc can only go to 6s, I'd say go there, or change gearing/motor.

E-revo MMM 2200 6s zippy 50MPH of pure fun and parts destroying powa!
Futaba 3pk more controller then anyone person needs
TC5 top speed drifter 21mph on crappacks and 40 on calc

Nahhh, I understand the whole speed, gearing, ect. The issue is there are alot of batteries on the market, Some going as high as 10000mah but only in 7.4, I know if i go 11.1V I'll get more top end out of it. But I know I dont want to go with 7.4V 5000mah which is what i have now. I seen that SMC has a 9000mah but its a 7.4V battery. So i guess with all the speed junkies out here. I can find another brand of battery with more go and throw.

The question is do you want to stick with a pair of 2s lipos or go up to a pair of 3s lipos? Your motor will handle either, but would most likely be happier with 4s total.

Any reason that you do not like the packs you are running now?

Yes, definitely need to decide whether you want to stay 4s or jump to 5s or 6s?

A new pack that you should consider is the Hyperion G3 VX. I have heard nothing but good from the packs from boaters and they are the hardest on batteries. So I picked up a pair of 2s packs to try out. www.allerc.com has them.

Well right now, You can say I am running 4S because I am. So The next step would be 6S which I would find in (2) 3S packs. There isnt anything wrong with the packs I am running. I just know that the same would apply that does in the rock crawlers. I was running 7.4V 1500mah's in my crawlers and have since recently moved up to 11.1v 1500's. Sure I am using more juice but I get more snap when I need it and still can drive out a 15 min. course easy.
So I figure there has to be something out there that is a reliable 11.1v 5000+ battery so I am not loosing run time by using more juice for punch.

Now, you can do a 2s and 3s pack for 5s. I know you have a split pack chassis so it wouldn't be the best balance. So then 6s would be the logical choice.

I would give those a shot!

I have these packs and IMO they are under rated. Probably a 25C pack. These have lots of power and punch.
