Hacker C50 Maxx

First off thank you Mike for all your help via e-mail...I ordered the 9918 for my C50 maxx..which I'm not sure if I'll be happy with it. Everyone has the 9L and such..anyway..according to the hacker manual it recommeds the following,

Note:This motor requires the use of a Kimbrough 72T-32Pitch spur gear for proper operation.

...what are some gearing ideas I can use for both top and bottom end power?

Bottom end?

Mid end?

Top end?

Well, I don't have a C50 but when I started getting into brushless this was the only motors available. Feigao were not out yet (at least I didn't see them). Anyway, here's some info on performance from the hacker website it you didn't see it already:

I don't think you'll be disapointed because you didn't get a 9L etc., You could always save up and buy one, they are way cheaper than hacker. I believe you need the 72t spur because the way the motor mounts are, it doesn't allow you to adjust the motor any closer, so if you got a smaller spur, the pinion would not reach it properly (correct me if I'm wrong).

You should be happy going to brushless though

c50 maxx is a 12s. it has high turns meaning more efficiency (longer runtimes), but it's short can can only provide so much power. The 9l should go faster (with the correct gearing) than the c50maxx

I don't have a 9L... heh..

Power is relative so I wouldn't worry if people compare their 9L with the C50Maxx or the HV-Maxx or etc. It's what you think is powerful and enough.

I mean some think their 9L is really powerful? They haven't used a XL or especially a BigMaxximum.

So go have fun with your C50 then tell us what you think.

Well you will gain speed as you drop teeth on the spur and gain teeth on the Pinion and to gain low end you do the opposite.

Well I sold the hacker maxx and ordered the 9L..I'll have it for the weekend.

What kind of gearing is best for this application?

Bottom?
Mid?
Top?

widemouth - which gear are you going to be running in - are you planning on using both gears ? By the way - you will be happy with the 9L - it is just so much more versatile. And when you say mid - you mean a good balance between runtime and speed correct?

I'll be only using 1 servo..so I'll be going in high gear...and yes..mid..a little bit of both..

I think too I'll be happy with the 9L...but have you seen who is stocking the brace for the 9L?

I assume that your drivetrain is stock - so i will let you know what your speeds should be with a couple of setups - all at 12 Cells - all in second gear....

14 pinion 66 spur - about 29 mph
16 pinion 66 spur - about 33 mph
18 pinion 66 spur - about 37 mph
20 pinion 66 spur - about 41 mph
22 pinion 66 spur - about 45 mph

Here are some choices - I went with 12 cells - because that motor is typically used with 12 cells - going to 14 will put that motor close to its rpm limit. Hope this helps.......

Very very helpful...I do hear alot of people running 14 cells with the 9L. Is 22 pinion the maximum number I could use? What would be the mx limit?

I just stopped at 22 - it seems to go up about 4mph for every tooth size - As far as the maximum - you would probably want to check the temps after your runs to see what the max for you would be - everyone has a different style of driving - I myself am a finesse driver ( Mike - stop laughing ) Actually i am surprised i havent snapped the handle off my Transmitter by pulling the trigger back so hard - LOL

Is it safe to run 14 cells on the 9L 9918 combo? What is the difference with 12 and 14 cell count? power? runtime? good or bad? My max weights a little over 11lbs..the only plastic is the rims and torpedo chassis...all metal gearing..

I would say that you could run that combo on 14 cells with no problems. I think that running 14 cells in your emaxx is correct. Being your maxx is a bit on the heavy side the extra cells will help you with your power and speed. Please excuse me but when i said that you would be pushing the limit with the 9L - i made a mistake - I was basing that on a 8L. So much for posting this early in the morning...

you should start with 16/66 gearing and work your way up if you feel the need. the thing is fast and hard to control at high speeds, so you might find it better to gear down and have more power than gear up and have hard to control speeds

I would agree - start off conservative. mid 30's is plenty fast for messing around - It starts to get a little hairy when you get in the upper 30's and beyond....
