Failing Spektrum receivers? -
08.01.2009, 05:40 PM
Finally got the chance to bring my RC8 conversion to life today, but only for a moment. The receiver I put in it has been working flawlessly the last time I used it, SR3000, really basic spektrum receiver. But now the binding drops in and out at random at a fairly frequent rate (about a 2 second rate). Ok no big deal, I'll grab a spare. Put in one of my spares and I get the same thing but with less frequent drop outs (every 6 or 7 seconds). How well known is this problem?

seems like the bec in the esc is under alot of load, try unplugging your throttle servo and see if you lose signal. if it is well then you know that your steering servo is bad.

"Things that make you go 'hmmmmm'?"
Ok the receiver is working fine now. I moved the antenna about 1/2 inch to go around a different corner and it's not losing the binding. Will do more testing.

After testing it out some more it began to have the same problems. I think they've taken all the abuse they're going to take. I've tested with esc alone connected and not servo, move all the cables apart from each other and still getting the binding dropping in and out.
So I went out and bought a new SR3300T. Sucks that I had to spend the money, but I can't have less than 3 receivers. Now I don't have a backup :(

I had 3 Spektrum SR3000 receivers, and one of them would lose signal every 2 minutes or so. I sent it in and got back a brand new SR3001 receiver. Their customer service is pretty amazing. It did take a little while to get back, but it was worth it to get back the upgraded receiver.

hmm, I'll look into that. Might be worth getting them repaired or replaced to have an extra in my parts box.

Spektrum receivers tend to be sensitive to noisy 5/6v, and some BECs put out more noise than others. Try a 1,000uf+ 10v cap on an unused receiver port and/or wind the throttle cable a turn or two through a ferrite ring.

or, just grab or make a rx battery, or a 2 cell lipo, plug it into a Rx that isnt in a car, turn on your radio and walk down the block with the Rx and leave the Tx at home. that should tell you for sure if it is radio interference or not. if the LED keeps goin out, then it must be the Rx's time to go
I had a problem like that in my rustler, but once I hit close to full throttle, my Rx would drop connection for a few seconds, quite often sending me into curbs and stationary objects. I moved everything about 2 inches away from the Rx and it was fine.
