Brushless gearing question for associated 10L?

As some of you know I'm a boat guy, so I come to Mikes forum for some much needed car advice. I used to carpet race quite some time ago with stock 27turn brushed motors. My son has dug out my old Associated 10l and wants to drop a feigao 540 10S with mamba max and 6 cell nimh pack in it. But I have no idea on where to start with gearing. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hmm... Not sure on the gearing. Any clue on the MPH they run?

You can use this http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_top_speed.html to guesstimate pretty close. Just use the Differential and Tranny ratio as 1.

Thanks for the link. I'll give it a try. I forget what it used to run for mph. Probably about 30mph or so. I will gear it for that and work up from there. This car shouldn't have much trouble running 40 plus on bl power.

The 10s will be plenty of motor, I doubt you will have any temp isses even geared for 60mph!

The link cory pointed you towars is quite good, you will just have to count you spur teeth and play with it a bit to get the desired mph.

I went with the feigao 540 10s. Its fast on asphalt, but I cant get it to hook up well. All it wants to do is donuts. I had some old foam carpet foams on it. So I took a trip to the local hobby shop and I found 2 rear rubber tires and 1 front(LOL). Its a bit better, but still spins out.

Sounds like you need 100% punch control for that beast! You could also lower the timing 1 step. Maybe some negative exponential on the throttle channel would tame take off as well.

I need a big piece of lead I've also geared it for slower top speed. I think that gives it way to much torque.

Yeah, lower gearing does increase torque! Some extra weight may not be a bad idea, run a pair of stick packs in parallel... Longer runtimes and more weight! Gearing up may help, and with some trial and error you will find the "sweet spot" for that feigao. They all seem to have a gearing comb that they like, sometimes it is faster than you want, and sometimes slower. This is how I ended up with 400 bucks worth of mod 1 pinions...
