Does anyone run a parallel 6S E-Revo? -
09.12.2009, 03:22 PM
I'm considering running two Zippy Flightmax 6S 2650mAh 20C packs in parallel, does anyone else run theirs with a similar setup? What make of battery are you using?
E-Revo - Mega ACn 22/45/1E MMM 6S
E-Maxx - Feigao 7XL MM 4S
AX10 RTR - Stock :D
Micro-T - Losi LiPo upgrade
Mini LST2 - Discarded. Useless POS.

I run 2x 5s lipos in parallel...
Hobbycity Zippy-H 4000mah 25-35c.
Your suggested setup is still a bit on the 'light' side current wise, woudl be better if they were were either higher Mah or higher C rate, but it should run fine, just keep an eye on temps.

Neil,
You were able to squeeze 4000HC Zippy H packs in a Erevo ?
DAM, I ordered 2 of the 3300mah Zippy H 5s 30C because I thought they would bearly fit ? I think I cheated myself out of 1400mah. Poop.

Not an Erevo, my Gmaxx, but the principle is the same.
As for dimensions:

Well since the packs are parallel, I get twice of everything else except the voltage, so 2650mAhx2 = 5300mAh and 20Cx2=40C. It was the benefit of parallel vs series that made me go this way, because I run parallel 4S 30C 3500mAh packs in my E-Maxx and the packs rarely hit 110F even on a warm day, while the series setup in my E-Revo has been regularly seeing temps of up to 150F at times. I just didn't realise till now that I actually had a viable option for parallel 6S because when I bought my Zippys a 18 months ago there wasn't this big of a selection of packs to choose from.

Do you reckon a 31mm tall battery can get in there with a snug fit?

No problem Neil, I was thinking I over looked somthing.
I have packs that are 33mm Tall and they fit perfectly.

Thanks for the replies. I guess once my current 3S packs crap out (which I'm thinking is soon since they're only holding about 4.18v per cell now), I'll place an order for a pair of 6S packs.

No No No! The C rating doesn't double with parallel packs, the capacity does- and therefore the amperage capability, but the effective C rating is the same.
2650 x 20C = 53A
(2650 x 2) x 20C = 106A
So like Neil said those packs are are a bit "light" for the E-Revo. Just watch the temps and make sure they are at the same state of charge/balance when you run.

OIC, I always figured since C is a derivative of the individual cell's capacity, the same properties would apply.

I see, but remember that C is a multiplier, not a value. It can't be "added" like capacity/voltage can.

I had mentioned above that my 1st gen Zippy 3S 20-30C 5000mAh (circa May 2008) packs reach 150F. This is not true. The problem is with my girly hands thinking things are way hotter than they. Today my trusty Turnigy IR temp gauge gave me the following results after I noticed a performance drop but before I hit the LVC.
ESC - 123F
Motor - 122F (active cooling with two 40x20MM high speed 5V fans + Novak 5412 heatsink)
Batteries - Left side 112F/ Right side 111F
22/68, Punch 50%, Startup LOW. Bashing terrain was bumpy 2-6inch grass with bare dusty patches (large unused play ground). So considering that my truck was inappropriately geared for the terrain to begin with, I think those temps are pretty much in the green, no? Climate was mid to late 80s with 999999999% humidity.

Atleast someone is running the Turnigy IR. (me too)
Do you think it's as accurate as it says on the box?

I tested it with a body cavity thermometer and the results were close enough. Also, the same Turnigy unit is marketed by a few other brand names, for about $30. So I doubt people would shell out that kind of money if it weren't. I wouldn't mind if it was off by a degree or two, considering I only paid 10 bucks for it. Turnigy has some good products, I think Hobbyking is assimilating all the products under one brand name, since Zippy soon won't exist either.
