Roar 1/8 electric championships -
09.23.2009, 05:25 PM
Well the first ever 1/8 electric championships put on by ROAR are being held at Revelation Raceway on Nov. 27-29. The biggest thing about this race is that we were able to get ROAR to give everyone an exemption on the battery rules. That means no hard cases or 4s limit! This should really boost the number of entries and hopefully show ROAR that the current battery rules are not needed for 1/8 scale. For those in the So-Cal area please come out to race! Here's a link to the sign up on Rev's site. Also, if anyone goes on RCTech (I know a few that do), there's a thread about this race and debate about this battery exemption. It would be great to have more people show their support (in a tactful manner of course) for this class having open rules such as soft case packs, no cell limit, etc. so that future rules may be improved to favor the majority of the people in the class. I will be out there not just to race but for support as well. I hope to see lot's of locals tearing it up!
Matt

This is great news for the class. I've voiced my support for the exemption and I know most on here would support it as well. Like Matt said, let's get as many people out there as possible for this race. Spread the word, it should be a good one!

LOL!!
They did limit it to 6s, but hey, that's progress. Even if it is only for this race. Hopefully they can assess the dangers of current lipos and chargers and make some adjustments from there. If something unfortunate happens and there is a lipo fire, then maybe they were right the first time. My guess is that we will see a few ESC fires throughout the weekend, but no lipo mishaps.
So, is anyone on the boards here planning on attending this race? It should be the biggest 1/8th electric race to date.

I wish I wasn't on the other side of the WORLD! lol
maybe I'm reckless, but if a lipo is gonna catch fire, it's gonna make a scene no matter what casing it is in, and no matter what voltage it is... Can someone explain to me their point?
And just for my information, do they run different engine classes in nitro racing and are they looking to split the 4s and 6s groups?
I'll be honest and say I didn't hit any links or anything as I'm on my phone ATM lol

All the battery motor combination's will be run together. Classes will be separated by skill, Pro, Expert, Sportsman, etc. (and separate buggy and truggy of course )
In nitro racing, engine size can vary. In buggy, .21 is standard, but at a club race no one cares about a 24.7 sport engine. In truggy, anything up to a .28 is fine. A lot of pro's will actually run .21's in their truggy for better fuel mileage and because laying down the extra power is harder to do for consistent laps.

If I was anywhere near this I would for sure attend it for sure. Love the fact that the goofy batery rules were lifted for the race. They are finally comming arround to where they need to be.
Best of luck to all of you that make it. I'll be jealous!
I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Spoke with Dana (Rev track owner) this morning. It's unfortunate that they separated everything. But on the sunny side, it's a chance for us (the non-hardcase-users) to put our money where our mouth is. We're hoping the 'DEMO' class will be bigger than the 'ROAR APPROVED' class. Based on our experiences it should be. If it isn't, then ROAR shouldn't change anything. If it is, hopefully ROAR realizes that what we need right now is lower cost, better availability, and more people involved to see our hobby grow. We'll see...

That's gonna be an awesome race for sure. I wonder how much last year's JBRL electric 1/8 demo race has influenced this one (being at Rev and all). If it weren't for school I would definitely be there.
