Brushless 380s for a Tamiya tank... - 10.20.2009, 11:08 AM

So I am getting a Tamiya tank 25 years after I initially wanted one. The tank uses two brushed 380 motors for locomotion and turning the turret.

I was wondering if there are suitable high torque/low rpm 380 sized brushless motors out there? I do not want increased wheel speed, as I do not want to risk stripping any of the gears. I want brushless simply for low maintenance and efficiency. To the extent I can increase torque without an increase in wheelspeed, that would be good too.

Thanks.

Eh. Nevermind. It appears that the Tamiya esc (which also coordinates with a sound unit and can't practically be switched out) only works with brushed motors.

Naturally- stock brushed electronics in 99% of tamiya's gear. Given the low speed nature of the setup, I dont imagine maintainence will be much of a problem- 380 motors are dirt cheap too so replacing them every so often is no big deal.

The 370 & 380 brushed motors are purty inexpensive, I'll bet they'll take a lot of running befor needing replaced.

I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

true, but accessability in most of these tanks is a PITA.

I'm sold on brushless/lipo and not just for sheer horsepower.

I have an HL 16th scale tank I will be putting brushless in in the future. Each motor will be controlled independently with each stick and I will be using two sidewinder micros and the lowest KV motor or possibly a small outrunner.

It can be done you just have to change it from how most tanks are done and ditch the stock electronics.
