Yes, you can. Some sensored motors were designed in such a way that they sometimes have a difficult time starting up smoothly on sensorless ESCs, so you might get cogging.

the higher rpm motor will start off better then a high turn, say a 6.5 will be good but a 17.5 will most likely not run well, i have ran a 6.5 on the ez run 60a and could not tell the difference between that and my lrp system i have now
I tried racing stock touring with the mamba max and the novak 17.5. Half the time the motor starts in reverse before going forward. Basically the person starting behind me ran into me and costed both of us a lap. It's really hard to start those high turn novak style motors, especially when you have to have a final drive ratio of 4:1 or lower. I have a MM pro in the mail as we speak!
