New Savage XL Terra Pin Tires: HUGE!

I have a set of these from my XL. They are great offroad. Amazing the stuff I could drive thru. Onroad is absolutely terrible. They balloon so much and the sidewalls are so big the car just begins to sway and loose control at any speed much more than 35mph.
They are 17mm rims stock btw.

5B set up would require switching to 24mm hubs, though. I sent an email to HPI to see if those hubs will fit the Savage outdrives.

JT you can use the 5T Savage hubs that take the Baja rims if you have the EXTENDED axles from the XL and the 5T 24mm hex adaptors...You also need the XL dogbones to fit the XL axles...(this also cancels out the possibility of using 8mm buggy axles)...The XL bones means you need the XL diffs and the XL dedicated bulkheads :) this counts me out for right now as i am all X sizes...

...not a cheap exercise and the Baja beadlock weights and the tire weights is kinda scary...I have 17mm Maximzers and dirtbonz (still) and they have added alot of 'noticeable' weight, (though i prefer the beadlock advantage)...

It would be worth a shot if you knew your BL transmission is set up for it...Unfortuntaely mine isnt but i would still love to see this setup in action :)

Thanks for all the news fellas...I still reckon they are a great tire and worth a shot...just make sure they dont go on-road too much i guess :) Certainly enough cmments to make an educated guess at how they go though...Great stuff and thanks for your efforts :)

wow i didnt know to do the xl conversion you would need xl bulks and diffs, i was just thinking arms and all center and drive bones...hmmm might as well just convert the xl then. Money wise its just not worth the extra dough.

all you need to convert a flux to xl length and width is either the TCScrawlers kit or the 1offrc kit and the extended axles. that's it. you are trying to make this harder than it needs to be

...i thought the extended axles needed the fatter bones, connected to the fatter outdrives, connected to the xl bulks...connected to the knee bone, connected to the ankle bone :) Sing along :) We all know the tune :)

Just as a matter of interest, and gettinf back on topic, who is using these with or without airholes in rims or tires? Not wanting to open the whole aireated (spelling?), just how it corresponds yo the Terra Pins...

Actually had a bag of these in my hand in Tokyo the other day and they are lighter tgan GT's which surprised and delighted me LOL

The Flux shares the same outdrives from the diff as the XL. That is why I ended up needing the FLM Diff cases for the XL, as they come with a pair of smaller diameter outdrive cups - which still fit the stock drive shaft.

The bigger outdrives and bones are nice, but are not required. If you want the ext axles that comes on the XL, then you will need to convert to the larger bones and diff outdrives.

As has been correctly stated...

X to XL needs the cups, FLUX to XL has the right bones and cups already...

SO...

air holes yes or no...I am thinking NO to keep the wheel HARDER and less rolling resistance, therefore more shock movemement too? or will they be TOO bouncy? Might solve the sidewall folding too?
