rcmonster sells a bore reducer that will allow the use of 5mm bore pinions on 3.17mm bore motors. it's cheap too

They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

Look for Mod1.0 pinions with a 5mm bore. Then, get the 5mm to 1/8" bore reducer. As far as what tooth count to get, we need to know about what speed you are looking to attain and the voltage you plan to run.

You can use the speed calculator (link in my sig) to try different scenarious, but this is what I got using a 16T spur:

Differential Ratio: 3.25
Transmission Ratio: 1
Other Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 46
Pinion Tooth Count: 16
Total Voltage: 11.1
Motor KV: 3500
Tire Diameter (inches): 3.25
Tire Ballooning (inches): 0
Motor Current Draw: 0
Motor Coil Resistance: 0
Spur/Pinion Ratio: 2.88 : 1
Total Ratio: 9.34375 : 1
Tire Circumference (inches): 10.21 inches (259.34 mm)
Rollout: 1.09:1
Total Motor Speed: 38850 RPM
Vehicle Speed: 40.2 mph (64.58 km/h)
Effective KV Value: 3500
KT constant: 0.39 oz-in/A
