I got my bearing in from Boca and now it seems I borked a CD bearing, but I ran it anyway. Pretty sure the can is too big to allow for my 14T pinion, so I slid on a 16T just so I could run it (geared for 60 MPH before ballooning). Accelerated my ~14 pound Muggy to top speed as fast as the tires would allow and in the 3 minutes that the pinion stayed on the shaft it never got even noticeably warm (running without a body). Seems like the perfect motor for my Muggy, but I'll have to wait until Summer to see if I need to mod it to take a bigger spur because there's no way I can gear it down to 45 with those tires and the stock spur.

I got some video, it's kinda crappy but it works. I have no internet at home right now, but hopefully I can netstumble upon some sucker who thinks WEP is "good enough" and get the video up.

Any word when I could send my motor back and get the 5mm shaft version? It's still in the box and I never had power run through it yet...

the snow on the ground really wont let it perform it seems, i think when i have the money ill put the 1520 in mine as i want more gearing options but ill have to buy a new chassis plate as mine still resembles a taco. nice vid looks cold out there. really makes me want to get mine out again.

Yeah the snow wouldn't let it hook up very well but the power is insane. It was around 0 that night, but I really wanted to run it!

What truck and motor do you have exactly?
What speed are you aiming for roughly?
How much money do you have to spend on lipos & charging equipment?

How much experience of BL and high end r/cs do you have?

Answer that little lot then we'll be able to make some proper recommendations...

1580kv on 4s will be rather slow, needs a bit more voltage to unleash its potential I would say.

Neil, you are right about unleashing it's full potential, But........

Even on 4S, such a well built motor can really perform.

Example:

I just picked up another Heli motor. I have an obsession with outrunner type motors, thus the reason for the avatar.

This one is HUGE. 43mm X 72mm. It is a 8 pole outrunner that yields 1100kv.

It's stator is 35mm in dia. X 38mm Long. Very strong magnets.

The advertised rating is 1600 watts continuous and 6S.

The Thing is a Torque Monster.

I've only ran it once so far on 4S, but in an E Revo geared 25/36 using Mod 1 gears, It is very impressive.

No Cogging and it will backflip. LOL It runs really cool too.

1st run was cut short when the Motor Pinion came loose. This time it got some Blue Lock Tight.

Back on Topic, the 1717 looks to be VERY well built. I can see one of those in my future.

I see alot of talk about Maximum RPM's, but you gotta realize just how much torque the lower kv motors are capable of.

How high it winds becomes less of a performance factor, the larger the motors get.

when i first got into this everyone was buying the really high kv motors and puting and running them to the rpm limit causing hot setups. now its the monster max and a low kv motor that runs cool and efficient. im really enjoying this new stuff as it comes out.

I tried a 1280 kv motor on 6s.
It kind of surprised me.
I figured even on stock gearing it should run faster.
Alot more pep to. :D
