protection for your mamba monster(new product that might help)

I was looking at the outwears Inc Mamba max ESC cover and I emailed ask if it would fit the mamba monster.Well the person who replied said that it does but they will have on soon.
If your interested the part number is 20-2583 and will cost around $15.95.Also you`ll have to order by phone(269-679-3301) since it isn`t on their website at the moment.Maybe it`ll save the fan on the mamba monster

Looks much like the items people have used which restrict airflow and have caused ESC failures. Do they have a guarantee your ESC won't fail because of that cover?

They make air filter cover for gas powered engines,So I don`t think it would be a problem.Its also water Repellent

Different dynamics between a gas engine and an ESC tht needs airflow across a heat sink to keep cool. Like I said, unless they offer a guarantee and free replacement if your ESC fries because of that thing I would stay away.

Airflow for an ESC has two parts, cool air coming in and hot air going out where as airflow on a gas engine only needs intake. Most likely that prefilter will stifle outgoing hot air flow which is why several people who have used it ended up with fried ESC's.

I personally just wouldn't use one. For the reasons Tex mentioned, and I think they are ugly as sin. A small screen does wonders to protect the fan.

Even if the fan could overcome the pressure drop of the fine mesh with adequate air volume for cooling. Without the fan intake being right up against mesh to pull air through, it would promote recirculation of the hot air back into the fan.

I'm using the Traxxas MMM mount on my 8T and have trapped above the ESC, between it and the mount then I've added a thin disc of air filter foam.

Not as restrictive and just stops any crud dropping into the fan...ESC has been nothing more than barely warm after use on each occasion with it fitted.

What you did is a much better solution and still allows good airflow around the heatsink. Plus it probably cost you less than buying the pantyhose wrap off some website.

Amen to that- I want/need to do the same on the Gmaxx, get fed up with removing half a ton of dried grass after every run..

DIY. Here's wht i've done. Plastic held together by wall tape & shoe goo on 4 corners followed by High-temp silicone around where the wires pop out. It's not waterproof. Just enough to block some splashes in case I landed myself in one. It sucks, I know so don't flame me. It's not been brought out for a run so I'll keep a look on temps when I do.

I did this to my mbx-5T to keep it a bit higher and allow air all around the esc...and to keep some of the dirt from the rear tires out of the fan..hopefully

I'm currently looking at options on keeping water out of my MM. I don't submerge it ever, but, depending on the truck (ERevo does a good job of protecting the insides, Slayer conversion does NOT, and neither does an E-LST2). I don't really feel like covering the ESC with a coating, nor do I want to make some dorky looking box of silicone. I don't see how putting something over the fan sinks will do enough to keep water from getting inside. it will HELP, but water can get in almost anywhere.

I'm still thinking the Outerwears Mamba Max breathable cover would be fine. If it's breathable and waterproof, then it must work?

I dunno, but the fact that the MM isn't waterproof REALLY REALLY bothers me and limits me quite a bit on when and where I can drive my trucks!

I did a Google search and found this post in another forum:

"They are sprayed with silicone conformal coating to make them as water resistant as they can be without being potted (sealed in epoxy) to make them 100% waterproof. Potting does not allow for access to the components ever again...why it's not covered under warranty and we don't do it. You will not have any problems in the snow with either ESC...even a splash of water won't hurt. Don't submerge it though...your battery connectors aren't waterproof.
