I'm planning to do a conversion on a Hyper ST or a Mugen MBX5T.
I know that higher voltage combined with low Kv setups are optimal.
I'm going to stay with 6s and not go higher, because if I'd go higher I'd need a more expensive ESC. The MMM and HW Xerun can handle 6S, but no more...
So to operate at the optimal rpm I'd need to get 1600 -1800 Kv right?
So why does everyone keep recommending the MMM 2200 combo?
The 2200 is a great option if using a 6s setup. The 2200 motor will pull 3000 watts so you will need at minimum 5000mah 30c packs to feed the motor safetly. If your going to race the truggy you can turn down your throttle EPA so it's driveable on the track.
In my opinion the 1600-1800kv range of motors are best for 6s (i run a 1515 2.5d- 1700kv) motor in my buggy. Although it is according to if you are racing or just bashing. I find the 1700kv even being a little too snappy for the track and have to watch my gear ratios in order to win a race. Monster Mike runs 5s with his 2.5d for racing. Also the lower kv runs cooler, which is good for pack after pack racing. 2200kv should be fine for bashing though.
I run 1450 kv on 6s in my racing buggy, which seems about right. I will be soon trying 1650 kv on 6s in my truggy, but it may be too much. These are for racing BTW.
Right, I forgot to mention that I do not race, I only bash.
I'm on a budget, so what would the best options be as far as motors go? And I mean best bang for the buck, not best performance regardless of price.
I was thinking:
1. Medusa 36-80-1600
2. CCNeu 1518 1Y 1800kv
3. CCNeu 1520 1Y 1600kv
1700kv on 5S works great in truggy so for 6S 1450 should be about right but it depends on which motor you plan to use. Neus can handle lot of punishment and I used to have 2050kv motor on 5S and it worked great as well :)

I run a 1550 on 5s in my truggy and its more than enough for raceing even on the biggest racks. If you intend to race this truggy and are going with 6s Id recomend something more in the 1300-1400 range.
You just dont use that much power on the track.
Turning down the EPA on an overpowered setup is a patch to make a non optimized setup driveable on the track. If you are bashing and want speed runs and wheelies from your truggy but also want an occational day at the track thenits an option, but for a race intended setup its just silly.
I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...
