anybody have some experience with redcat racing buggies? - 02.06.2010, 11:43 AM

a guy is having some major computer probs and is offering to give me a redcat tornado nitro buggy if i fix his computer. the computer fix is just time not hardware so it really isnt costing me anything.. i just dont know to either get cash.. prob 50-60 or take the nitro buggy..

my long term goal is to make a hauling ass on road with it.. not sure if i should save the 60 for something a little better or go with the deal.

Some of the pictures I've seen of Redcat products look "Iffy" at best, I don't know anyone who has a Redcat anything so I can't really say ?

I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

i've seen them and they are fun for just messing around with. they are not bash worthy by any means.

also, i'm pretty sure the diff gears are plastic, so don't put a more powerful engine in there. the chassis also bends very easily.

if it is the 1/8 buggy, it is not half bad. their 1/8 scale buggies are about as good as the duratrax raze.

edit: the good thing about them is the parts are dirt cheap. very cheap to fix.

They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

I've messed with/fixed a couple of the tornado 1/10 buggies. And honestly they really havn't been too terrible. They actually run pretty good. The diffs, at least the ring and pinion were metal in these, but have seen a couple of them strip, so the clearance must be off or just cheap metal. About the only other problem has been the knuckles get worn and will pop off the pivot balls, the radio equipment leaves a little to be desired as well. But for $120 rtr car. I guess you really can't expect too much.
