9xl died hard - 02.09.2010, 04:24 AM

I got a call and to charge my batts and meet at the spot for some backyard snow bashing. Got there and put 1st pair of packs in the E-Maxx and stuttered right away and then everything just powered off, tried one pack at a time and found a dead lipo. I put in second pair and and ran stuttering for 30 seconds and powered off again. most connections were melted and motor was HOT. Got home and charger confirmed back pack and I hooked up the castlelink to see if mamba was bad. IT"S GOOD. fixed connectors and pulled 9xl to check and sure enough it spins by hand with no resistance. swapped in my 6xl and a 14t pinion to go with the 62t spur and tried it again. All's well now. That 9xl lasted about 2 years and got hot on everyrun. i'll use the 6xl for now but I'm curently looking for a Mamba motor.

that 6xl is a hot hot hot motor. Gear low and limit voltage. Good luck.

As stated above...the 6xl is a hot motor so be v/careful w/gearing and as soon as you can get a castle motor and you will have no more worries

Ya, I remember it be said it'll be a hot one. It's in a 3905 E-Maxx on 4 cell Li-Po, MM, geared at 14/62 with LST rims/tires so it should be fine for winter. I can always get a bigger spur but that's about it.

Maybe pack snow around it when you run?

I was thinking about possibly selling my Neu-Castle 2200kV motor. Has about 5 packs run through it. Not sure yet, but just throwing it out there.

I had the 6XL before and it is a HOT running motor. On 4s, it will melt that snow before it even gets within an inch of it...haha. On 3s, it's a much happier motor.
