Got a deal on a Flux - 03.17.2010, 06:41 PM

Got tired of breaking e revo axles so i found a flux on craigslist other day. went and looked at it and it was in mint condition, only ran 2 sets of packs through it so i bought it from the guy. offered him 400 and he agreed. Couldnt be happier with this thing, it does need the BP diffs though as this still has the first gen diffs. So do i just call HPI and they will send me diffs? Or do they need to see that i broke a diff first? I do have the original reciept so i dont think that will be an issue.

Far as I can recall, upgrade parts are the customers responsibility to replace, especially if your buying used equipment, unless you break a diff, and your receipt shows that it is still under factory warranty. Only one person around here, at least that I know of, had the opinion that they somehow owed him these upgrades.

i think the warranty is for 2 years. I have the reciept from the guy i bought it from. I figured it may be my responsibility to buy them but just thought i would check.

Guy with a new, but old stock Flux has just busted an orig style diff and talked with HPI - they asked for pics and he's still waiting to hear back from them after emailing the pics, been a few days. Apparently, they no longer just send them out. Call and see if they'll upgrade without breaking them.

I bought mine from TCS Crawlers at $25 each. You won't find them cheaper.

ps...and remember you have to do both diff's 'cause the new ones are a couple teeth different.

Also most warranties are not transferable. However unless your receipt has names and info, they won't know.

I do agree that upgrade parts are your resonsibility. Traxxas isn't offering you their CVDs because you were breaking their shafts.

I think you should be converting a LST tho...

Thats a good point, but traxxas also isnt putting thier cvd's in the new trucks like HPI is putting the BP diffs in thier new ones. Its not really an upgrade, but more of recall if you will. (kind of)

definately non transferable warranty. i had an issue with my blur and hpi didn't care that the truck was less than 6 months old, just that i bought it used. +1 on the diffs also, if you want them upgraded then go buy some upgraded ones. you got a good deal on the truck i wouldn't push your luck too much. I'm happy i bought my flux even though the warranty didn't transfer because i got a good deal on it and its better than my emaxx. if a diff goes out i'll buy the new ones.

I never actually broke a stock diff, and wouldn't worry about them until you break one. First thing I'd recommend a HPI Flux owner to do is to ditch the stock ESC and throw in a Tekin R8 (smoother and more reliable)

problem with that is to get the mamba monster replaced in it its 70 USD even when its out of warranty. a new tekin rx8 is quite a bit more then that. i may end up doing this though and put the monster in my emaxx, if i ever decide to make it brushless, but i don't think i will i like one waterproof, and slower for the kids to play with while i'm playing with my flux.

Im sorry you have bad feelings towards CC, I have a strong feeling that Tekin's failure rate is the same as CC's. But CC probably has 1000x the units out there being used as compared to Tekin, so of course CC is going to have a lot more bad units out there. Its all a numbers game. Also i dont care about smoothness since i never run my truck at 6% throttle.

I used to be a big Castle Fan, Mamba Max, Sidewinder, Small 1/18th Mamba, all outstanding. Mamba Max Pro wasn't bad either.

just takes one bad apple I guess

From what I have seen in local 1/8th Electric racers the Tekin and the new LRP speedies seem to be the most reliable (in a race environment at least) I've heard of one Tekin let go locally and around a dozen or more MMM's (including one that just caught fire while calibrating throttle end points)

I can only make a recommendation on what I see.
