Question Should I sell? - 03.23.2010, 07:14 PM

I've got a HB Lightning 1/8th electric conversion that I'm thinking of selling.

I built it many moons ago when LSP conversion conversations were developing around here. It has only a few hours of runtime.

I've never sold any of my cars before, so I'm wondering if it would be best to part it out, sell the whole car, or just keep it.

Any of you post-sellers out there have any input/recommendations for me?

1 x RC-Monster mid-chassis electric motor mount
4 x HPI Spike Monster Wheel Black 83x56mm
1 x Fiego motor 540 (purple can)

You'll get more money parting it out, though if alot of parts dont sell you will be stuck with them. Probably better to sell it as a roller, then sell the other expensive parts like the servo, motor, esc seperately.

Yeah, sounded odd to me too. Might be a technorc neu- the blue is kinda dark blue-ish purple on some of the older ones..

You're right, it's a Fiego 540. :) Forgot to update that -- the can is naked and I couldn't remember at glance!

Sadly, used RCs don't fetch much. I got squat for my used Tekno Losi 8ight-T 1.0 when I sold it, and the Tekno kit was almost new. I got a little more than what it would cost someone to just buy the Tekno conversion kit itself. I say keep it. As long as you enjoy running it, that's more value than you'll get selling it.

I say take it out and use it, you will soon see why you should keep it

Yep .. decided to keep it. Just hard to find replacement parts for these guys as they continue to age and at $250 for Lipo batteries, I was considering moving on.

Nonetheless, ordered a replacement Lipo 6500 4S 14.8v and see how long she'll keep running before my hand is forced.

$250 for lipos? if you buy Maxamps stuff yeah...

Try:
hobbycity.com
yeshobby.com
hobbypartz.com

and a few other places- you can pick up great quality lipos for less than $30 per 2s 5000mah pack, or there abouts.

Yeah, MaxAmps. I have noticed their price increase, but also everywhere else it seems for quality Lipos. I checked a couple others and they weren't far off.

Do you know something I should? :)

I like the Hyperion batts myself, my LHS gets in them and Hacker top fuel lipos. I asked about them and have gotten all good reviews from plane and heli guys. Or you could try turnigy packs

Thanks ...

Maybe I should experiment more about Lipos -- when I've researched there, I can't see to find 60C+ lipos and I think in all cases would be required to run two packs, to get the same equiv as the single 6500 14.8 from MaxAmps.

Do you happen to have an URL for a close match for a quality Lipo there somewhere that I'm missing?

We know stuff about maxamps, lots of stuff....

As it is, cheap ebay lipos can match maxamps- they are just selling chinese cells and assembling into 'custom' pack in the usa = $$$ mark up in price to cover their advertising and sponsership deals.

As for their 60c lipos- Jesus, all they are a 3p of cheap 20c cells, its the onyl way they could even come close to matching the output power of truely decent cells like hyperion, thunderpower, flightpower, polyquest, neu energy etc etc. Dont give them your money any more- they are crooks and conartists who ignore people's questions and concerns. if you wanna see what kind of attitude they ( Austin & jason ) have towards genuine and valid questions, grab a cold one and read through this epic thread:

http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...&highlight=60c

Everything about their marketing ( surge watts and one zillion amps output etc ) is aimed at attracting new guys who dont know any better and making them spend 3-4 times as much money on lipos as they need to ( hence why maxamps advertise so much, viscious cycle of high prices and high quantity of adverts to pay for it ), compared to much better brands who dont make spurious claims about the performance and actually post real discharge graphes- along with not making you pay extra for a useful warrenty.

If you want cheap and great quality, go for any of the ones I listed before.

If you want fair price and top quality, go for the hyperion G3 VX lipos on www.allerc.com, but for God's sake dont spend any more money on maxamps over rated and over priced stuff.
