MMPro is amazing! -
04.22.2010, 02:33 PM
Just received a new MMPro for my SC10 yesterday. Racing class is for a 13.5T motor so I also got a Novak SSPro 13.5T. When I placed the order I forgot to order the appropriate spur and pinion so until that order comes I have the stock gearing. With 5 degree timing the speed was pretty much identical to stock. Today I bumped the timing up to 30 degrees in sensor only mode to try it out. Wow!!! This was like going from a brushed E-Maxx to a MMM combo! I gained at least 8 MPH just with the timing. Can't wait to see what happens with the right gearing. I will start out with 5* and bump up from there keeping an eye on temps and wether or not I can control that power on the track.
Thanks Castle for a great esc, I'm so glad I don't have to run an Orange esc!

yeah i will second that. the mmp is indeed an excellent speed control! run one in my 4x4 slash with a duo 550 on 3s, lap times are about the same or slightly slower than my buggies. tried both the sensored only and smartsense but found temps were a little cooler and the truck would do an extra 2-4 laps in smartsense so there it stayed. castle really has had the right stuff when it comes to programming your speedo for a long time, not like other "innovators" or copycats....... (insert name here then ad "link" to the end)not to mention their integrity in the products they produce. no need for some crappy loyalty program, customers are loyal because the products rock!!!!! and when they do encounter problems they have outstanding tech people you can speak with to figure out what needs to happen.

Funny you should mention that... the Patent we applied for (over six years ago) on the Castle Link just got accepted. Now being public filed.

True, but we can stop the importation and distribution if they won't pay licensing. And we can have sanctions slapped on those "direct from Hong Kong" guys... But they all lie on their import forms anyway -- " Gift from Grandma, $10.00 value".
Mike can go after anyone who sells copies in the US -- And he should talk to Customs about sanctions.

Last I heard, he was discussing the issue with his lawyer. I would hope the attorney would know about those sanctions.
Personally, it's "bad" that companies infringe on patents, but I also blame consumers too. After all, if no one bought the copied items, there would be no sense in copying them in the first place. Oh, I'm sure there are some who don't realize there is a patented original, but I'd bet that most do know it and go for the cheaper alternative to save a few $$$.

It is quite difficult to stop anything coming in the mail, unfortunately. Short of opening all packages from the "offending party" (which of course won't happen), it is just too easy to lie on the forms as you mentioned. China and many/most countries do recognize trademarks(Slipperential is a trademark name) so I am chasing down the trademark angle right now while I try to figure out how to stop the importing.
I am curious about the "sanctions" comment, though - I would love nothing more than to put a beating on the offenders(financially, physically and/or otherwise any way possible).

Mike, send me an email -- I'm trying to get the distributors involved in this.

Agreed, BrianG - the ones that don't know any better can't be blamed directly of course - but if the clones didn't exist this wouldn't be an issue. The ones that know and don't care are either low lives or too stupid to understand the amount of work that goes into certain things. I still haven't quite turned a profit on the Slipperential, due to 2 years of development and "higher than China" production costs of selecting quality material and manufacturing it in the US. The reality is that this theft is no different than someone stealing your car or your house in the grand scheme of things. Property is property.
The inherent problem is that when intellectual property is allowed to be stolen so easily, it stifles the creative spirit. If the inventor can't reap some benefit of his/her own creation, then the motivation to innovate gets numbed. Not that it is all about money, either - I am blessed with the opportunity to do as my job what the rest of you guys do for fun - but I do need to pay bills in order to do it. :)
Email on the way, Patrick. :)

good to see people with morals and values in life above and beyond money. at least if you cant come up with it on your own change something! like the name..... for starters. have had problems with this same type of piracy in my wifes business and its a PITA! the fact is the laws protect the money not the individuals. there is recourse, but the blatent thievery will never cease due to greed. i will be the first to admit, i own turnigy lipos, but honestly i would be able to race like i do if i had to pay 3-5 times as much for my batteries. not to mention im pretty sure ALL the lipo cells come from the same places whether you buy them in USA or elswhere.
@Patrick- dude i was shocked when i saw what i did, but honestly wasnt surprised. in the last two years of racing at the begining i was solo in the CC corner while everyone used slo***. the reps i raced with were horrible, knew nothing about their product but knew it was the best. right... fast forward to now after they had tried everything under the sun and you know what i see... the inevitable truth.. CC rocks!
@Mike-good luck on the beatings.. ha ha gotta love that an american company like ebay is turnnig their head to make a buck. all this aside, people KNOW who rc-monster mike is, not this other looser. being the smart business man you are you make TONS of good stuff and it is resonably priced. oh yeah then there is that forum that you have..... and participate in... in the end you get what you pay for. who knows what kind of crappy pot metal knockoffs are made of.
