I used to have a lot of fun with my Losi Xcelorin1700kv on 5s in my Buggy and Truggy. In Europe, the motor is quite affordable (less than €ur 100,-, which is ok for a quality motor), but had one massive problem: the kevlar-bonding of the rotor gets damaged by dirt that gets into the motor by the mounting-holes. I 've fixed the bonding a couple of times with super glue, but finally the bondig got damaged completely. I've sent in the motor for replacement, and last week I have received the new motor.
I have already heard that the newer motors have a rotor with carbon-bonding. Let's have a close look at the "new" motor.
It seems that the blue surface has a better quality than the old one; an other improvement: the screws of the endbells have a better quality. Good to see that Losi reacts on customer complaints. I really like the various mounting holes of the front endbell (M3, M4).
Having a closer look at the motor, you can see a few changes besides the new bonding:
size of the rotor (total size) is about 18,6-18,8 mm; length is 40mm, total lenght is 85 mm. new are the bushings on tha axle. The bearings are both pretty massive. total size of the motor is 39 x 70mm. For cooling purposes you either need the Losi-Heatsink (diameter 39 mm) or you have a fan. I used to have a fan, like that the temperatures have been around 50-55 deg. c/122-131f, sometimes - but not that often - above.
Inside, the motor seems to be the same, 12 slots:
I can't make a statement about Ri or efficiency, but I know that at least the "old one" had a great torque (5s). The Motor has a detent torque, which is not that strong, less than the detent torque of my medusa 3680 1600.
U should put some foam unter the cap to keep the rear bearing free of dust.
I know that many hail motors like medusa, neu; I think, the 1/8 losi-motors are great stuff. A problem might be, that the 1/10 electronics stuff seems to have poor quality, so people think the 1/8 motors are bad, too.
