RX8 - which fan? - 07.20.2010, 04:42 AM

Hey there

since heat is going up and up every race I have. I've decided that it's good idea to have a fan on my RX8 controller. Since stock one lasted about 5minutes of racing and second one I've bought lasted about the same. I've decided to give it a try with different fans.

Maybe you'll find it usefull, maybe you got some suggestion for me. Well let's see.

I've tried this one
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...PM-Cooling-Fan
which is really fast and noisy (so you know it's still going) however it died quite fast as well...
so another one I've tried (as I had it somehere in box at home and I was desperate) is this one
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...-Cooling-Fan-2
surprisingly (I am not very big fan of Novak products...) it lasted about three races and than it breaks free from it's cage in rx8 and instantly died. However compared to muchmore one it's way slower and it's cooling ability is lower, however still rx8 was comfortably sitting around 45-55 celsius, without fan after 5mins it was around 65+ and I was just testing it.

I've secured it in the place by tiny zip ties, which is working very well compared to screw solution which I just wasn't happy with.

The stock fans are fine if you need to run them. I don't run them at all and as long as your setup is right you won't need them either.

Also the label goes down...

You should look over your car and see if there are bind points. Gear mesh too tight, bearings going out, etc. It shouldn't be getting hot like that. I'd check the car beginning to end before wasting any more money on fans.

The label on that fan should be up, judging by the shape of the blades it is set up to blow air down into the heatsink.

All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.
