Converting T-maxx to brushless. - 01.15.2011, 12:15 PM

Just a couple of quick questions..

Can I simply install a brushless ready E-maxx motor mount on the center tranny? Or do I need to install an E-maxx tranny?

Should I upgrade the drivetrain? And will FLM E-maxx parts fit T-maxx?

With the exception of the chassis plate, and transmission the T-maxx and e-maxx are the same, so FLM chassis parts will work no problem. You can't use an E-maxx motor plate on a T-maxx transmission, it won't just bolt on anyway. You could mount the motor to the chassis with an L bracket or something though if you're really strapped for cash and aren't going crazy with the power. Best thing is to just buy an E-maxx transmission and chassis to swap onto your truck, unless your t-maxx is a 2.5, in that case I'd sell it and start with a 3905 E-maxx. The old style plastic sliders won't last a pack with brushless power.

I think it's the 3.3 version. Only 1 plastic driveshaft, which is the front one. Rest are metal dogbones.

So, I can just buy http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...lm10900&cat=31 and http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...xtranny&cat=31 and just install? :)

The chassis will just bolt on yes. That transmission case you linked is for the 3906 Emaxx, and not the 3905 you need to match the chassis you linked. Its also only the case, and the 3905 is stronger. I'd just find one on ebay, they're pretty bulletproof so you don't have to worry too much about buying them used.

Also for the 3906. I don't think anyone makes a metal tranny case for the 3905 tranny. Except maybe RD Logics. Even a brand new 3905 tranny on eBay will be less $ than building a 3906 from parts and it would be stronger too.

Ta-da:

http://cgi.ebay.com/TRAXXAS-16-8-E-M...item1c1897910e

You will need a new emaxx ( 3903/05/08 ) chassis- either the factory grey one + braces, or the FLM 3905 chassis. Then you can bolt your T-maxx front and rear ends on essentially and you are done, just add esc, motor, radio, servo & batts.

The steering on the 3903/05/08 is unique to them and the pieces are different than any of the nitro models, not all the pieces, just a few pieces of the bellcranks and such. Traxxas has exploded views of all models on their website so you can cross reference parts.

Yeah, the bulkhead is for Stampede. Forgot to cut it out from my post.

So, I'll also need to get some steering components for this conversion? Probably won't be that hard to get ahold of in Norway I hope.

Thanks for all your help people. I really appreciate it!

Will trannys from 03/05/08 work across all the platforms? Such as a 08 tranny on a 05 chassis.

Yes! The only differences between these 3 models is that the 3905 is the brushed version w/AM radio, both the 3903 and 3908 both have 2.4Ghz Traxxas Link radios and I believe it's the 3908 that's the brushless version. All parts are interchangeable amongst these 3 models
