Efficiency question - 01.22.2011, 11:32 AM

Ok I have a 3905 maxx and want 40mph lots of torque but cool temps even under constant throttle spikes and wide open running. But with the best efficiency possible. I have the MMM 2200 combo now but am looking at a 1520 or 1518 for my 6s needs.

I just want to know what my best option is for power and runtime with 6s 5000 45c cells

Well I am not going to get too technical but my 1518 is a great motor in my Revo. Feels a little lethargic on 4S but wales right up on 6S. I would hate to see what it does on 8S on which it should be capable of running. If you gear it for 40mph on 6S I think it will run very cool indeed. My Revo is geared for 62mph on 6S and even then the 1518 doesn't get all that warm really.

For 40 mph on 6s the 2200 is a great motor. Really no need to look at the 1518 unless you have a really heavy maxx. I had mine geared with a 2200 at 50 and it ran cool all day long.

I currently have mine at 18/68 that comes out to 43.49 mph in the speed calc....and the performance is ok but not impressive for 6s in my opinion. The motor also gets hotter then I like.....I ordered a castle blower and am going to go over my settings on my esc once I get the software loaded on my new pc. gotta check castles website as i misplaced my cd

I've got my E-Maxx geared 17/68 on the Castle 1518-1800Kv motor and get at least 45 minutes run time on 6S 40C/80C 5000mAH packs. ESC fan almost never comes on and motor is just over 110F.

Have you checked for binding in the drive train? This is an often overlooked item.

Second, are you using a temp gun or your finger? A temp gun is the correct way, your finger is not. Temp guns can be hand for less than 30 dollars which is a small amount of insurance on a 600 dollar plus truck.

Is that the same one you bought from that really cool bald guy?

I use a temp gun being a quadriplegic I can't judge hot/cold with my fingers any more. I'll have my LHS check my drive train...when I push my truck the gears are loud in the tranny. nothing is binding but I haven't run the truck in a while. just waiting on my nano-teck 3s 5000 45/90c lipos. as the zippys were getting spoungy after a hard session. I hooked up the mmm to my pc and found my punch was turned way down to 20% and medium start power so i set it to 80% and high this should fix my problem...

Wow i'm impressed you get 45 minutes from 5000 mah pack

I never got more then 20 but I run a lot of full throttle wich is why my temps are higher and run time shorter..........if the blower doesnt help ill pop in a 1518 or gear down some...actually ill order a 16 or 15t now and just gear down as well

For 6s I woulod say the 1518 would be a good choice. I did run the 1515 2200kv motor in a lst on 5s and it did very well. But if you plan to do alot of stop and start bashing a lower kv motor that has more torque will be the way to go. I did prefer the neu 1521 1y on 6s in the lst vs the cc 2200kv motor on 5s.

I have a 1520 but have yet to use it. Also have another 1521 neu so I plan to see if one is better than the other.

Yup. I've got mine geared for about 30mph and that's enough for me for now. I will go up a tooth or two on the pinion when I go to the soccer fields but for the space I have now in my apartment parking lot 30mph is enough. And yes, I do go full throttle a lot.

You might have to go to a smaller pinion on the 2200Kv motor if you plan on using it with 6S, or, like linc said, drop the 1518 in. The 2200Kv is more of a 4S - 5S motor in the E-Maxx.

so far the 1518 search has limmited results being people paid 65 and want 120+ wich is out of my range now that I invested in new lipo's

let me know when your 1520 gets cold n lonely and needs a new home

she's fairly stock just rdl bulks, trx center drives, amcnc towers, trx big bore shocks, and shinny cvd's when my plastic's snap.

Just curious but what type of temps are you seeing?
