I lost a cell while running a truck. It was smoking hot. I pulled the body off and the batts. I grabbed my temp checker and it was 350f. I think it was toast.

Peace!

Well that sounds ok then, mine all seem just warm after a run :)

Thanks,

A gentleman posted a thread on a different board awhile ago, with a picture of his jacket pocket; he had stuck a sidexside pack in there, and forgot he had some loose change in the pocket too!
The sparks started a nice little smokin' blaze that burned a hole clear through both sides of his jacket/lining!

Pretty sure he started wrapping elec. tape around the ends of his sidexside packs after that. :002:

My 3800's lasted only like 5 minutes max when I lost a cell. When I drove it back to me I could has a sizzling or release of air type noise. The pack was hot and I couldnt get it to charge after that. I knew something was wrong.

About a year ago I bought my first sets of "good" batteries from Alex at BoomBoomBatteries. When I go thtem, I was quite dissappointed that they werent "wrapped" like the batteries I was accustomed to getting from my LHS. I asked Alex about it, and I posted a question about it over on RCU, and I was roasted on the fire about the "added weight", overheating, "no respectable racer would be seen with wrapped batteries...", etc., (Kinda like saying "I dont want brushless.." on this forum!!!)

I had several issues with those batteries - one set exploded on the charger, one was wired backwards, and one set ended up melting the tamiya plug on my emaxx. I was a newbie and didnt know how to handle them "correctly", so I take partial responsibilty for it.

Thats why I'm converting all my "good" stuff to Deans. Still have a pile of cheap stockers that run on your basic 1500's that I'm leaving the Tamiya's on. Back on the thread topic...does the shrink wrap really affect battery temps? I wouldnt think it would amount to much, but then just putting a plastic grocery bag over my emaxx in snow was enough to considerably raise the tmeps, so stopping airflow does affect it somewhat.

Finally blew a cell, shorted it before a run and then it started hissing etc, just hope it will get fixed :(
