Unhappy Sensored vs. Sensorless - 03.24.2005, 12:14 AM

I am a little confused on why sensored seems to waste power, or so it seems by looking at the negative feedback that the HV4400 gets. It has the highest Kv rating out of most of the BL motors RCM stocks, so why does it have such a bad rep, or maybe i just don't understand the tech behind either one of the types of motors.

For example:
HV4400- KV-4400
9L- Kv- 2731

?????????

For one reason or another, the Novak Kv values don't line up with the rest of the world. I wouldn't say the Novak has a bad rap. it simply isn't as powerful as other systems. It is a nice upgrade to the stock system, and is a smooth operator, but it just won't put out as much power as some other systems. Sensorless systems are a little more efficient and capable of slightly more power/rpm (generally speaking). for low speed stuff, sensored is the way to go.

I think there is also the factor of the voltage drop due to the possibly higher internal resistance of Novak's controllers. Perhaps under high amp load, the resistance of the controller is significant enough to really slow down the motor. maybe the motor actually is capable of that RPM. Only way to test it is to get the HVMaxx motor and use a sensorless controller and see what happens. Maybe I'll get one to experiment with...

The power also has to do with the watts not just the KV right? Novaks HV motor puts out alot less watts. 375 watts at 14.4 volts for the HV. A lehner xl is what 1200 ? lol.

I would only get the HV if all I cared about was smooth low speed throttle control. I actually have one and installed it on a stampede for a short time but I can get the same speeds on 7 cells with my lehner 4200 as on 12 with the HV maxx. I ended up packing up the HV and I may sell it heh.
