Temps on steel spur

Just tried my G-maxx for the first time today, after changing to the Robinson racing gen3 steel slipper and Traxxas centerdiff.

How is it with temps on the spur/pinion gear after running. When I was done driving (only 5-10 minuttes on grass), it smelled quite hot, so I was affraid my esc was on the edge, but as it was quite cold, I took of the spurgear cover, and the spur an pinion were very hot. They are not damaged and still looks new.

So my question is, is this normal?

I don't have a Maxx, but was experiencing heat issues with my Losi 8ight truck using steel pinion and spurs. It was getting the CD hot enough to be pushing out the silicone oil.

My fix was to go to a delrin spur. No issues with stripping the gear so far, but I do keep a extra as a back up. My losi T runs a 1717 on 6S geared anywhere from 45/11 for pulling the kids to 45/17 for speed runs, so I have put the delrin through it's paces.

Thanks for the replies. To begin with I will tighten the spur. Actually I can just tighten it as much as possible, with the centerdiff in it. Maybe it will help.

Do you have any lubricant on the gears? Some dry graphite will help, if not.

A mesh that is too tight can overheat metal spurs & pinions as well. How do you set your mesh? Can you hold the pinion and then rotate the spur ever so slightly, and I mean slightly? If there is no movement at all, your mesh is too tight.
