Question Aluminum Shafts - 03.25.2006, 02:28 AM

I've been reading posts about trashed aluminum transmission shafts with brushless setups. That makes sense in a 2-speed, but is there an issue with using them in single-speeds?

That's a comon thing. Don't get the lightwheigt alum input or output from traxxas. It's crap.

Beside's that, the original input can just about handle brushless power. I've broken the pin that hold's the input pinion on on a c50 hacker on just 12 cell's.

Last week i ran my maxx with 14 cells/3S lipo and after about 5 runs the front one already came loose. (and i am sure i tightened them as hard as possible) the aluminium is good if you use a plastic drivetrain, but if you use CVD's they will get killed within a few loads. (i use the singlespeed bytheway)

The problem is that the setscrew for the CVD's/cups eats in pretty easy. The pin thru of the stock shafts might work though, but i got the normal output/input just in case..

The problem i had was it running on the steel idler eats the top gear away. The problem on botttom shaft is it will ring off easily with power. I had them and killed them. It lasted pretty good on the hv maxx setup. I put a second one on it and bip it was over.

Peace!

Ok. Thanks for the input - umm I mean info. I have 3 trucks under construction. One is a Lightning/GA with tall titanium towers, 6 spider diffs, Ultrmaxxed transmision and 8 Kyosho 8th scale shocks. I want to use it to pull the others on a trailer.
The second is a cf Gorrila chassis with FLM hybrids, 8 spider diffs and low ti towers. I'm trying to find 4 UE shocks for that one. It will be a single-speed racer.
The third will be a stock chassis basher with RPM arms, FLM Combo bulks. Nova/Robinson diffs, and a ti rollcage.
I guess I need to dump all the aluminum shafts I've been collecting.
