MMP reverse polarity - 10.09.2011, 06:46 AM

Hi,
I have my MMP reversed polarity with 7.4v lipo.
There was smoke coming out of esc.
Battery wire became stiff when cooling down.
However, the esc was back to life when I had correct polarity.
I could not notice any wrong with the esc in my 1/10 buggy.
Do you know where the smoke came from?
Do I need to send the esc in for further inspection?
Thanks.

Possible that the capacitors went pop. Not sure but maybe someone else can confirm.

Anyway how the heck did you manage that? Connectors shouldn't allow that to happen.

I would say better safe than sorry, you never know what will happen after that.

BIG-block, he might have used a hard case lipo that uses 3.5mm plugs

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Chances are you vented the main three caps. That is easy to tell simply by opening the ESC and taking a look at them. If the tops of the caps are dome-shaped, then they are bad. Or, you could have blown something else, like a diode, TVS device, etc. Even though the ESC still "works", I would still send it in. Something burned up, and your ESC might not handle loads as well as it used to. The ESC might heat up more, or just not be reliable.

Right. I use a hard case lipo with 4mm plugs.
I will try to contact CC for sending in the esc.
Thank you all.

Well that makes sense but I still think it shouldn't be that easy. Squirt some red paint around the + terminal on the battery or even use some red nail polish. Just don't get any inside the plug. When I had a few hard cases with plugs thats what I used to do.
