Hi all!

I got this Lehner 2240/6 HiAmp for a bargain ($275), but the problem is that it is installed with water cooling device, you know, that sleeve-like thingy that goes over the can with a very small golden plug coming out of it to be connected to a tube.

My question is,

How can I take the cooling device off the motor? That thing is sticking to the can like it was secured with cement. So hard to pull it out.

Any help would be most appreciated. It's very frustrating...:(

Ummm...well, I'll say it again in case you didn't understand:

I want to get rid of the water cooling device on the 2240/6 motor. Is there a way to do this? Maybe a link to one of the threads around here that discusses this problem- if available?

I would think that you first have to figure out how it is attached. If it's thermal epoxy, freezing the motor can make the epoxy brittle enough to break loose. Or, you can try heating it up to ~200*F to make the adhesive softer (I would remove rotor first), just be careful not to go too high where you melt the coil wire laminations.

However, the contact area between the motor and sleeve is quite large and you may have trouble seperating them no matter what you do.

What I meant was; the water sleeve is pretty tightly bound to the motor and it wraps all the way around the motor. That's a lot of surface area for an adhesive to work with and may be difficult to break it loose.

I tried freezing it, but it didn't do much effect. I also attempted to screw out the front endbell to take out the rotor, but it is also too hard to turn. Gee...

Can you dremel off the water inlet/outlet and be done or cut a section off the water jacket and "peel" it off?

Yeah, at that point, I would just dremel off the inlets and let it be. It's not worth ruining the motor otherwise, unless you want to add a heatsink or something.

aren't the inlet and outlet threaded in? you could just unscrew them dremel heads

Yeah, I thought about using a dremel to cut the jacket in half. I just might overdo it and ruin the motor. I'll give it a try.

Like Brian was saying, there may be so much glue in between the cooling sleeve and motor can that it will never come off, or even with a dremel it may fight you the whole way.

Does your application have enough room to just leave it on? It won't hurt anything.

I want to use it in 1/8 truggy with Mike's swivle motor mount. I just don't know if the jacket will limit gearing and blah, blah, blah...

Go slow and start from the middle where there is gap for the water...

Maybe at the end just before you cut the watercooler, use (not so much aggressive) hand saw and go slow so you dont hurt the motor can.
