I finally found a local place that will TiNi coat titanium/steel, as well as AlTiNi coat aluminum (yep, aluminum can be TiNi Coated) parts on my Supermaxxes!

On my finished SM, what all do you guys think should be TiNi coated (GOLD)? I am thinking the 8mm Ti CVDs, Ti Pillow-Balls, VBS Hingepins, All of the Screws, the 51T Spur & Motor-Pinion, the Diff Rings & Pinions...what else do you guys think I should do?

I am also thinking about having every aluminum piece Chrome-Plated...how awesome would that look? Better than fully polished, and will never have to be repolished! I am also thinking about having all the aluminum parts Gold-Chrome Plated or Gold AlTiNi Coated...that would be friggin' sweet! It looks like real 24k gold-plating, but it's just a gold-chrome!

EDIT: Another possibility would be to have all of the aluminum Copper-Plated...that would look sick wit all of the gold TiNi coated parts!

Please leave feedback!

Pricing?? - 04.05.2012, 12:48 PM

So you found a place to get it done, but how much is going to cost? Can they do it by lot (considering such tiny parts), or are they going to hit you for each part ($5-$10)? I mean if you can do a pile of R/C parts for like $100 that would be just awsome. Crome plating aluminum sounds a little weak, but if your never going to actually drive the vehicle it will stay nice looking. Doing anything in copper would look great at first, but when it starts to tarnish and you have to polish it two or three times a year that will suck. Tini coating the screws will look cool.

Yea, the place charges by the lot, and they charge substantially less if all the parts I have fit into a basket with parts in it already getting plated! They want me to bring the truck down so they can see what all will be getting plated, and what all sizes they are, and then they will give me a price. They say they are the least expensive in the South-East (I'm in Alabama), as well as having the best quality, and will beat or match any other price I find!

They actually etch the aluminum before plating, so that the chrome sticks to it extremely well, even if the aluminum is bent slightly after plating...so if I do decide to run the truck some, albeit very lightly, the plating won't crack, chip, bubble or come off if I accidentally hit something, heh!

The copper plating is basically the same, except they add a clear-type coating so that the copper stays looking brand-new for pretty much ever, and never needs polishing!

Man, I asked these guys every question I could think of, and they fully understand what kind of parts I have and what I want plated/coated, and I really liked their answers as well as their attitudes & personalities!

What do you guys think about having all or some of the aluminum parts Gold-Chrome Plated (looks like real 24k gold)? They said it's exactly the same as regular Chrome-Plating! I may wait until I get another Full-Blown Supermaxx built and have it Gold-Plated...it will look SICK sitting beside the Chrome-Plated SM!!!

Here are some parts on eBay, from jkrumbholz that have some kind of gold electro-plating:

Why the hell would you coat the ring and pinion? You've gone customization crazy man! You can't even see those

My opinion is that copper would look cheap. I think the gold would pretty much be the ultimate badass looking thing ever! I think an all gold supermaxx with that "rainbow" ti looking driveshafts and pillow balls etc. would look killer!! So the main parts gold, and hardware rainbow... man I can just picture it!!

You're a maxx freak Chad, and I love it!

TINI coating - 04.06.2012, 01:00 AM

He wants to coat some of the wear parts with TINI which would provide a hard coating reducing friction, wear, and extend their life. Not all coatings are for looks.

Funny there is an Audi SUV running around town here that has been entirely plated in gold crome. It's weird looking, but also kind of cool. I like the gold plated R/C parts shown. I believe that a totally gold plated SuperMaxx would look great. Anything done differently that has not been seen before would be a change for the better I would think. Go for it. And like I stated if they can do an entire batch of R/C parts for under $100 that would be a good deal.

I understand that Jerry, but 1. They are super 8's which are already bulletproof, and 2. They are shelf queens and will see little to no use

Kinda pointless...

That's a Bombproof Products Racebomb chassis. They were initially made in lexan then were offered in aluminum and carbon fiber.

Bombproof also made the Torpedo chassis.

Hell yea I am Maxx-Crazy, freakishly crazy! I like to do everything, not just parts that can be seen, because I like things to be "complete"...know what I mean, I'm like OCD with my Maxxes!

I also think gold is the way to go, and am 99% sure that's where I am heading! I hope you will be "picturing" it very soon!

Exactly, man! Like I said above, I think I have settled on the gold chrome, so keep an eye out!

That actually used to be my chassis, actually, everything that seller has used to be mine...I traded it all in on other parts and have no idea how he got it all, heh!

Anyway, I just got a new JT Racing Chassis in the mail today...it is sweet! I am a little bit stuck on collecting chassis right now, so it might be a while before we see the gold chrome SM...
