Question How to clean tires before duct taping them? - 06.04.2012, 04:32 AM

To avoid tire balooning I want to duct tape my tires. I've never done this before. What do i use to clean the insides of the tires before taping (and gluing, for that matter)?

Sweet. Thanks. Was in doubt whether it'd destroy the rubber. Off to get some alcohol then! :)

I've tapped a few sets of tires so far. When using a new set of tires I didn't use anything to clean the tires. Just Gorilla Tape and that was it. It is very strong and does not seem to have any problems sticking.

If they were used tires I would clean them with soap and watch and maybe a little wipe off with alchol or prepsol.

Good luck,
Nick

I've used rubbing alcohol on all my new tires I've taped - I usually notice that it takes off a light dusting of some junk on the inside of the tires (maybe from the foams).

And gorilla tape has never failed me - I hit it lightly with a hair dryer or heat gun after applying it to make sure the adhesive sticks well.

I cleaned one tire lightly with isopropyl alcohol and taped it. The tape sticks very well to the tire. I would have serious difficulties if I wanted to pull it off.

Thanks to everyone for the tips. :)
