Battery tray - 08.08.2012, 07:49 PM

I know I am creating a few threads these days. But I have a discussion here that may be helpful to others as well as the monster buggy thread. The threads are related.

I have heard it said that two battery straps can hold a battery in by themselves when aided by the entire bottom of the battery being covered in velcro to match the bottom of the tray, chassis, plate, what-have-you.

I am thinking of cutting the ends off of one of Mikes trays to install a larger battery. Two straps over the battery plus more velcro on the bottom. possibly both front and rear walls of the tray cut entirely down leaving the sides.

Thanks
-Zack

If you cut both ends you will weaken the tray considerably as its strength comes from its corners.....if at all possible leave one end intact. I would cut the rear and leave the front. Figuring that you are more likely to nose dive and or hit something moving forward... so by leaving the front of the tray intact, you eliminate any forward movement of the batt. With velcro on batt and bottom of tray and 2 straps I would imagine it would be ok. Once you have the batt in the tray you could always make a new stop point for the batt as well.

just my 2 cents

You'll be fine cutting the ends off. As magma suggested I would leave the front if possible, but it's not necessary.

I cut the rcm trays to make batteries fit in both my e5b and my hyper 8.5 and they are holding up fine.
