It's not the correct wire getting left out though, they are tapping into both grounds and thats no good. It should only be one ground going into the charger. My description above explains it.

A simple use of the voltmeter will show polarity and which lead goes where.

The schematic I copied/pasted does the same thing though, doesn't it? The middle positive lead gets left out.

I assumed the black wire was the negative. If I'm wrong on that assumption everything I've said is hogwash. Consult your voltmeter!
