Slipper and tranny questions - 04.30.2006, 09:41 AM

I have been searching around with not alot of success in finding answers to my question.

I stripped out my 2nd gear idler and would like to know if a good slipper will stop stpipping the stock gears?
I cant find any metal idler gear so I was hoping a nice slipper will work.

If I go with the stobe slipper I am somewhat confused about the gearing. Right now I am running a 66th with a 16t and it works fine. IF I go the slipper route what would be the same gear ratio. Also what type of gear do I need for the motor 8XL. I read mod1 mod2 ... not sure??

How much better is the stobe vs the RRP one?

RCM has their own metal idler gear's.

As for gearing ratio's, 66/16 which is 4.12. For the strobe slipper you'll need 51/12 which is 4.25, or 51/13 which is 3,92 but that will run slightly faster. So you need the 51 tooth spur gear and mod 1 12 or 13 tooth pinion gear.

I'd get the strobe over the rrp.

I see mike is out of stock on them. The best solution is the metal ones. They last alot better than the stock. The strobe is little better than the rrp. The rrp will hold up well under a fair amount of power. The strobe will take a little more though.

Peace!

I have had both and the strobe actually allows you to set some degree of slip. I like it ALOT better than the RRP.

I am running the strobe and a 8xl and 14 cells. My current gears are 16/51 but I think it will take a 18 pinion.

I picked up some stock one for the time being. Mike said he should have some metal ones next week.

I also grabbed a RRP slipper because the LHS had one. I put it in, reprogrammed my controller for 50/50 instead of 70/30 and the brakes are WAY TOO MUCH. First run I hit the breaks flipped it hard and broke the front shock tower.

PHEWEY. I picked up a hyper 7 I think I will work on that for a while until I get some motivation to fix the max I am tired of breaking things EVERY time I run it.
