Welcome to the forum!

The UBEC is not needed for the Hv-maxx as the BEC unit in it is good enough for 14 cells. If you want it to run cooler try a fan.

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

The HV system comes with a fan for the ESC, so you dont have to worry.

I have an HV 6.5 with a Hitec 5955TG steering servo (can draw up to 5 amps!) and its fine. I used to also have a 5925MG (for shifting) - but I got a single speed.

As long as you use the fan, the ESC stays very cool...mines about around 100 usually. It can drop to the low 90's on speed runs, at the track it runs about 105 (cause I'm giving partial throttle alot more, which generates more heat).

I see a hv 4.5 on the way.Did you get it yet? I had a 6.5 I ran w/lipos then got the 4.5. Wow! It is a strong runner despite what others say.My revo is 10 lbs w/batts 72/14 gearing it will pull the front tires up to around 30 mph.Not bad for the little novak.

Yea...Novak seems to pump out lots of power from small motors. Novak motors are all internally 380 sized, so its actually unfair to compare them to actual 540 sized sensorless motors. We should really compare them to other 380 motors.

I have not gotten the 4.5 yet. There is actually one waiting for me where I get my parts from. All I have to do is go in and give them $110 and its mine. But I wanted to try my LiPo's (which should be here soon) on the 6.5 before I got the 4.5, and I knew if I got the 4.5 the 6.5 would never go back in, not even for a test lol...

Also, on top of that, in the past couple weeks I bought a Duratrax Ice, ProPeak 20Amp Power Supply, Hyperion Balancer, 4 8000mah 2S2P Lipo's form Maxamps, 2 1500mah 3S Lipos from Maxamps, an Factory 18T kit, a Mamba Competition 6800, a Spektrum SR3500 Micro Receiver, and a servo and other stuff for the 18T. On top of that, I have to buy presents for my Brother and Parents. So, my budget is pretty strained right now. And being 16 with no job, the budget is very tight. The funds for all of the above came from eBaying Lego's. Its amazing how much people will pay for StarWars stuff.

When I have extra money sitting around then I'll pick up the 4.5. Its not that I'm exactly dying for more speed...my truck is already very quick.

PS. Get extra capacitors (2 extra, to be exact) and wire them in parallel with the current cap on the HV ESC. The boost in throttle response is insane. I've done this on my 6.5 system and its made a huge difference.

My Revo is 9.2 pounds with 7 cell GP's, probably sub 8 with the Lipos. Since Novak Motors benifit so much from reduced weight (because they are high RPM motors), I'm sure a 4.5 would make my truck rocket fast...I wouldn't be surprised if I got more than 45mph out of it. If they can do it in a 12lb E-Maxx, I can certainly do it in my 9lb G2R.

They add throttle response...I thought I made that pretty obvious by stating it right after "Get extra capacitors....HV ESC."

You can wire a ubec in if you want. I removed the center wire from the rx
plug. You just have to figure out which is the first and last wire in series.
I wired the lvc in with that as well.

You just wire it in parallel with the existing cap. Nothing special.

Caps function as a quick functioning battery. They store small amounts of energy (compared to an actual battery) but they can be discharged and recharged hundreds of times a second. This allows the Motor System to draw lots of power instantly (from the cap) instead of a delay when the pack's voltage is trying to recover. More caps in parallel = more capacity which = more power you can put out instantly.

I also noticed that my battery's ran cooler...

Where do you get the caps? What size?

If this works on the HV, wouldnt it work on other esc's?

I just got more of the original cap that comes on the HV.

This would work on other ESC's, but its probably harder to find the right cap - I think they need to be the same?

Anyways...Novak offers the Caps seperately as replacements so I just bought a couple extra and put em on. It was well worth it.

The battery has like a lag in them. The voltage will drop and then come up.
The caps are used to take this lag out. The lag is not alot but is there.
The better batteries don't have as much lag.
