OK this is probably the biggest decision i have to make on the car yet. OK i really am not a wiz at diffs so i don't know all the stuff about diffs. First of my goal is to reach mid to low 40 in my maxx. i already did the speed calculator, and i can hit these speeds using the maximizer diffs, sliders, slipperiential, 7XL, 4s, and standard tires. I want to know which is better for me the HB diffs or the maximizer diffs. My purposes are week days mild bashing weekends racing. Many people tell me to get the HB diffs because they are indestructible. I know this but i also realize the maximizer diffs will probably not fail me either. Most people say that there is a big difference with the HB diffs because you can fill them with oil. But with the HB diffs i have to buy CVDS, HB diffs, and hybrid diffs. this turns out to be about 100 dollars more than the maximizer diffs because with them i can use sliders. The only problem with besides the price with the HB diffs is the gear ratio they are higher ratio meaning with my setup i will lose about 6 miles a hour with the HB diffs v.s the maximizer diffs. Also he maximizer diffs allow for sliders and they are lighter, cheaper, and about as strong as the CVDS. My question for you is which should i get, you know my purposes and you know my setup. I want to know if it will actually be worth the extra 100 bucks to have these diffs.
Personally, I'd take the 6 MPH hit for durability. That speed won't help ya if you break! High 30's in a maxx is still plenty fast, but in the end you have to make the call.
The more rotating mass the more strain on drive line.
Boy howdy, I agree 110% here! I put a set of Hot Bodies 7" tires on my stock emaxx and that rapidly toasted my rear diff, twisted my driveshafts and ripped apart a universal carrier in the center driveshaft.
Yea, just gear up like I told you. There DEFINATELY worth the extra $100. Also, the handling differences will be temedous...(if you set them up correctly...)
