XXX-T MM5700 3S2P lipo is ALIVE!! - 01.24.2007, 10:12 PM

After taking all of your advice from a previous post I ordered my lipo pack last week Today I arrive home to find my MaxAmps 6000mah 3S2P 11.1V Lipo pack Hyperion LBA10 Balancer was on my doorstep today. I fiddled with it a little and had to notch part of the battery tray so that the battery cables could pass through. I used my custom Lexan strap that I made and a strip of velcro and it fit like a glove. I took it out on the street and WOW!!! :004: This thing flat out FLYS!! I can flip it over on its top going 25-30mph simply by giving it full throttle! It takes lots of throttle controll to keep the front end on the ground and steering. I am going to play with the Mamba settings until I get the throttle curve where I like it. With 14/86 gearing I am guessing that it is in the low 50mph range easily. BRING ON THE NITRO GUYS!! :017: Boy will they be in for a shock. I have a class after work tomorrow so I won't be able to play but I will try to get some video of it on Friday or Saturday. Thanks for all of everyones help!

Very good to hear you are happy with your setup! Sounds like fun!

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

I have the 7700 in my xxx-t mf2 and with a 16 tooth pinion and running street hawg (??)tires.it was clocked at 55mph with a bushnell radar gun but to be honest we were on a curve on a fairly busy road and I don't think I ever really got it quite wound out.

YMMV

I'm running a T4 with the 7700 on 3S Lipo. It's been clocked in excess of 60 mph. I say that because we clocked it with two or three radar guns. None had the same reading, but all were over 60. I'm running 12/87 gears with the shortest tires I could find. Speed hawgs, I think. My batts are 4S 4Ah lipo packs. I didn't go with the 2P packs because I wanted to keep the weight down. All I do with this truck is drag race. Jatos don't have a prayer. Stock or modified.

From what I understand, the 5700 system is much more gear friendly on 3S lipo than the 7700, so you should be able to gear up and go as fast or even faster than I do.

The only advise that I can give you is to put some weight on the front of the truck. I use stick on wheel balancing weights. I also avoid cutting cooling holes in any part of the body that faces up. I just cut an air scoop in the side of the body next to the ESC to help keep it cool. Holes in the top of the body really serve to pick the truck up off of the ground when your moving at speed. I have my start power at low, timing at low, and 100% punch control. This helps to tame it off of the line, but when you're moving the wind is really your enemy. Just try, if you can, to minimize the amount of wind that gets under the truck. All of this is, of course, useless on a racetrack, but it's all stuff that I had to deal with when racing in a parking lot.

Thanks for the tips. I won't get to mess with it again until Friday or Saturday. I was happy just getting the speeds I was and I did not even peak the battery first. I have it charging right now so it will be ready when I am!!!

Guys, you think the 7700 motor would go over 60 in a touring car with only 2s?
I wanted to get the TRF415MSX MRE, but it's out of stock everywhere and precisionrc's website is wricked down and I could not buy from them. I reserved a Hot Bodies Cyclone SME from towerhobbies.

The name is Alawi. You can call me Al.
Nice to meet you!

captain harlock,

Believe me when I say that I am no brushless expert, but I can make some comments based on experiences and observations that I've made while experimenting with the Mamba Max 7700 system.

What I've found is that the batteries play a BIG part in performance. If you want that car to do 60, just make sure that you go with a good pack that can deliver the amps and go light. I'm using the maxamps 4Ah packs and they do deliver a good punch and are light at about one third to one half the weight of a nimh 6 cell pack. When I first got my 7700 system, I was running it in my T4 on a 2S2P 8Ah pack, which is a brick, and my truck did an honest 50. We then took the system and put it into my buddy's tc3 and fed it with one of the orion lipo packs. I don't remember exactly how fast it went, but I do remember that it was faster than my truck. If you don't have the motor yet, you might want to try the 5700 on 3S lipo. I KNOW that will do 60.

sleebus,
That's the same thing the guys at Castle said. :) I know it's going to self destruct, but it hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. In fact, now that I've gone from the 3S2P 8Ah pack to the 3S1P 4Ah pack, it is actually faster and I was able to go up two teeth on the pinion. This thing is just stupid fast. The guys at Castle tell me that a 5700 on 3S lipo is faster, but I find that hard to believe, but they probably know better than I do. What I'm thinking is that after this motor grenades, maybe I should look at the 5700 on 4S lipo. :)

Although the mamba max motors are rated to 65,000 rpms, the guys at Castle have told me that they regularly test their motors up to 80,000 rpms, without anything blowing up. Of course, the motor is on borrowed time running it like that, but oh, what a way to go! Besides, I don't think that I'll ever wind it out. When you get going that fast, the race is over before anything even breaks a sweat.

If/when it does grenade, I'll be sure to at least email some out. I don't have a host for pics right now.

I have not had any problems at all with my tranny. I just installed the Mamba about 3 weeks ago but was running a Novak 5.5R before that. In 3 months all I have done is strip one idler gear. I bought spare trans off Ebay at the same time I ordered the 3s lipo. This is to reduce my downtime when things do break. I will see how long it takes before I need it. I lock my diff down as tight as i can get it then tighten my slipper all the way down and back it off about 1/4-1/2 of a turn. This setup has worked well for me.

Impressive performances...all of them!

I think I'll be building a drag car later this year and will move my MM ESC from my maxx to the dfrag car once the Monstar Mamba Max debuts.

I'll be looking for 70+ first time out.

Not sure If I'll custom build the chassis or buy one.

60+ in a stadiom truck....look out nitro 1/8 scale buggy! LOL!
