Problem with MGM80 -
06.25.2005, 12:30 PM
Hello,
My ESC worked correctly for the last 2 weeks but right now I try to run with but there is not work correctly. When I turn on the speed, it beep and the LED flash that show that is correct but when I put my transmitter in forward position, it work but when I go to neutral and I want to go to forward position, the motor don't move. I have to turn off-turn on the speed and the motor do the same thing. I program it 2-3 times but I am not sure if it correct but anyway if I do the default program it do it anyway.

I am not sure on this, but the first thing that comes to my mind is the auto correct neutral setting in the programming. How about reverse? Does this work properly? Has anything else changed from the last time the controller worked to when it had trouble(perhaps you used the radio on another model and made some adjustments, for example?)?

Reverse don't work properly too. They even move less than the forward position. I used the same controller and the adjustements was the same. Maybe re-program again will work but we don't know when the speed is correctly programmed, it's a bit difficult to program.

I agree, it is cumbersome to program. I had some trouble with mine once. I had to set it to default, then go step by step through the programming agian. It took me a few tries and a few cusre words to get it done!

is there a possibility to ship the speed for check/repair to the company? because I think the esc take some water and even i program it, it don't work anyway. i know that is no warranty but I can pay something for check/repair... but if it too expensive I would be oblige to buy a new one...

MGM has a policy in place detailing the repair costs for certain controller problems. If it took in water, then it would be a paid repair, but it would still be cheaper than a new one I am pretty sure. drop them an email and they will tell you how to proceed. If you need my assistance after that, please allow me to help. Here is the e-mail address: mgm@mgm-compro.cz

I will soon be going through MGM's repair/warranty process. A couple of months ago I *think* my MGM 120amp got some water in it, and after that it didn't work except in BOAT mode (but that didn't work well for my car). It would program in CAR mode, but the beeps coming from the motor were VERY weak. This signalled to me that the controller was damaged. So, about a week ago I sent the controller to MGM and will see what they are going to do. This was my first experience with anything overseas too!

Hi again Mike,
I e-mail at the address you said and I am in waiting of a response. In a case of too expensive cost repair, what I should buy for a speedo ? My restrictions is LiPo safe, can be with 12 cells, can power an E-Maxx, can power a 1/10 stadium truck and can power a boat. I view on your store that my choice is limited on two, the MGM80 again or the Warrior 9920. I just view that you have now barracuda boat controller but it's too expensive for me buy 2 speed control. The MGM80 was great and I think he can be on a boat because on the sticker of the speed control is writed CAR-BOAT like we see on the pic. And the advantage of the Warrior is the Software for program on a computer, is it USB connection for programming by PC?

The Warrior 9920 actually isn't a Lipoly safe controller. It has no cutoff like the MGM controllers do. Also, the Warrior 9920 has no BOAT mode, as it is a car controller. The Warrior can be programmed through a USB or PARALLEL cable, but its programming options are limited (mainly changing the motor timing). For these reasons in this post, I consider the MGM controllers to be superior to the Warrior controllers.

I agree with metalman. The low voltage for the warrior is not geared towards a lipoly battery. The mgm 120 amp would be my choice for your application. Just keep it dry!

The customer service of MGM response, they say :
============================
address is:
Ing. G. Dvorsky,
MGM compro,
Sv. Cecha 593,
760 01 Zlin,
Czech Republic
If you are from EU, it is easy. If you are out of EU, write only small price on the package (up to 10 USD) - it is important for our customs.
Price of repair is no possible say before repair, in most cases is up to 1/3 of the new ESC.
============================
If the price is too high, I will take the 120amp, does the 120 amp can be in boat like the 80 and/or have a boat mode? I hope... When the 120amp "will be in stock" ?

The 120amp version is basically the 80amp with a higher amp rating. I think the wires are also a larger size (not 100% sure though).

Judging from the picture, the 80 amp has one less of those layers than my mgm 12012. Each layer counts as 40/50 amps.
