the vette will kill the 200 mile barrier if they release the blue demon! Of course they need to take the governor off the vette!

iv got an 84 vette and it does better on the skid pad stock then a new stock vette... granted the new one kicks my azz in the quarter but i paid 5k for my car and its 22 years old and will still out corner most new cars even 6 x its price and with the new ones not breaking 200 mph ... im sure if they really tried to make it a 200mph car they could...but top speed is kinda a stupid way to compair cars...there are sooo many other more important factors

I don't see what the big deal is. You will probably never see 200mph. Certainly not on any racetrack...

It does do at least 198 in stock form. Keep in mind that very few cars have ever done 200 off the showroom floor. Most supercars are geared for around 190 or so but fall short of 200.
A light tune and a gear change would push it over 200 but that doesn't make it a better car... just slower to get to it's top speed.
Z06 costs $65-70k
tell me another car for that price that does anything better except get groceries.... ;)

the corvette sledgehammer back in i think 1988? it did 254mph, back in 88. Im not a big corvette fan but they have the ability to go 200mph easy, the production models of corvette are a high end sports car to way low end super car. they have the nitch and do it well. if they wanted to raise the price they could sell much better vehicles. Its not truly competing with the viper eather, Its much lighter and has a much smaller engine. eather company is more than capable of bettering both vehicles but no one would buy a chevy or dodge supercar. so they market where they need to

Z06 starts at 70k, but once all the basics are done its like 75k+ easy. Also, goes 196 according to Chevy's website.
I know theres much more than top speed, but even so...its a 7L V8...
For 70K you could easily have a 500 wheel HP Lancer Evo that would blow a Vette sky high at anything less than 150mph, not mentioning it could completely trounce it on a track.
Vettes are just overrated in my opinion.

No, there not. All that Jap stuff is. :p
Think of it this way. $70k in a Lancer is like spending $200k on a Vette. It is EASY to get 800+ hp out of a Vette. You have to remember, Chevy has to keep the Vette reasonable powered or insurance would make it almost impossible for most to get one. Not to mention, and you said it yourself, a sedan and a sports car are way different. It's like comparing apples and oranges. 2 seater vs. 4, awd vs. rwd, v6 vs. v8. Besides, what kinda moron would spend 70k on a Lancer?? Comparing a car with 3x its initial cost in hoppups to a car that is bone stock isn't fair. I could spend $70k on a Tahoe and have it beat a Corvette, but nobody in there right mind would do it...

Well heck we're talking box stock, not a tuner car, lol....
I jsut read a review (2006 model I think) of a Z06 base price was $65k and change... and $71k as tested... the Viper in the same article was $86k and change btw.
If we are talking tuners then there are Z06 packages with +1000HP and upgraded suspension and brakes.
see: Lingenfelter....
Funny thing is the Z06 is the one car that is not overrated. Vettes in general yes... but not the 06 and newer Z06.... it's a Ferrari killer. That new Ferrari is awesome (forget the name...) and it's a Z06 killer, lol.... but it;s the only one that can hang and it's $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$......

Why would anyone put 70k into a evo? i had an evo, that thing was junk! I'd build an sti or M3, but not a vette. the new lexus is-f is going to rock whenever they release it, but yeah anyways.
you think a 2250 with proper gearing could do 150? IF we DONT take into account aerodynamics or tires exploding or anything else?

the campairing a m5 to a corvette is kinda stupid ones a sedan ones a sportscar the sedan will NOT corner with a vette it simply will not do everything a corvette can .. and a corvette will never hold 4 peaple it will never have 4 doors so were getting back to the apples and oranges thing again the m5 is good for a sedan sure the vette is good for a sportscar some peaple are fans some arent so opinions varry ... but they are just opinions
so getting back on track a stock new vette z06 will take a stock m5 of the same year on any track even if the quarter mile times may be the same or close and when it comes to imports i wouldnt wanna put thousands into a import just to do what a vette can do stock .. but im not a import guy then again i like electric rc ... and not nitro .. go figure driving a gas rc car is like driving a import ricer you dont got no power till you get into the higher end of the rpm range i dont like that ... but thats just my preferance
wow are we off topic ill stop now its getting outa hand :031:
there are other forums for this anyways lol

careful there.... I think you are making some assumptions about the M cars that are not true.. ;) they can hang on the track... that's just the point.

Its true, even the m5 4 door can hang pretty well with a vette, and it had 4 door and everything else and weighs more, thats kinda the point, it can do what the vette can plus more
