LiPo users what LVC or warning system ? - 04.09.2007, 03:21 PM

What LVC's or other "warning items" for discharging LiPo's are you guys using.
I know of Mike's LI-Saver but almost every other LVC are airplane stuff, that if I have understood it correct, will throw my car in reverse when voltage drops.
I tried LI-Saver but that fried on me and before ordering another one I'd like to know what my options are.

So please help me with choosing a good LVC or similar, if possible one that can deal with 2S => 4S would be sweet.

AFAIK, Mike's Li-Saver is the car version.

Other than that, most of us (or I should say "I") use the built-in LVC in most of today's ESC. Some, like the MM, let you select a safer cutoff, like 3.1v/cell instead of the hard-coded 3.0v/cell.

There is another LVC that actually monitors each cell individually through the balance taps, but can't remember the name off hand...

About the individual cell monitor thingies; dimensionengineering makes them, and Graupner has got one too. The don't use pistol grip software though..

Metalman is the only person who has got one from dimensionengineering (cellshield) that has got a betaversion of the car-software. But all of a sudden they stopped replying his emails, so there goes another fine idea.. :)

I am using the Hv-Maxx (for now..) so I need an external LVC.
The one you are thinking of is probably CellShield from Dimension engineering, I have mailed them asking about a car version, it says on their web page that it's beeing developed.

Edit: Gee you guys are quick...

Oops, sorry, posted before paying attention to the fact you want one that does 2S-4S.

I run the lisaver with good sucess. I do know some have had problems with them. I not sure why. I have had a couple with no problems. I did have a plane one the frist time. That was a wide open reverse experence. The car version is much nicer.

Peace!

Yes, I do have the CellShield CAR version, but I do not use it. It isn't what I would consider to be car-friendly. After it cuts off and you go to neutral, the CellShield resets, allowing the use of throttle again. In a car, neutral is used quite frequently, which isn't good because the battery pack can be drawn lower than it should be (due to the constant resetting of the LVC). If Dimension Engineering were to have replied to me, there would be a pretty good chance that the CellShield for cars would be on the market now.

I assume you will monitor both packs with the 4S.
My idea was to only monitor the BEC side (2S) pack since that would go low first.
Would as 4S LVC actually "even out" the voltage drop between the two packs in such a way that if one pack drops say 0.5 volt and the other dropped 0.2 volts the 4S LVC would see it like a (0.5+0.2)/2 = 0.35 drop ?

Good to hear, I will see if I can work something out with Mike, living in Sweden do causes some problems with warranty/return issues...
