At one time there were kits available to build speed controls for brushed motors. I built several. Most used multiple mosfets in parallel (TO-220 case) , op amps like a NE544 and IIRC ran at a 60 hz frame rate. The kits ran 30-50 $ and worked quite well. This was 15 to 20 years ago. I doubt anyone now would be able to market a kit for a brushless speed control at a decent price-much to complex. Don
