Lehner 1930/8 in 1/8th buggy, first impressions (#%*@! rain) - 06.10.2007, 12:38 AM

1/8th buggy used: My Sportwerks Mayhem Pro here

Other motors used in buggy: 7XL geared 14/46 (40 mph), 8XL geared 14/46 (35 mph)

First off, this motor isn't much to look at. When I got my first XL, I remember how heavy the box was that it shipped in, and it was the only thing in the box. Then opening it up and saying,"now that's a motor". When I got the 1930/8, the box seemed pretty light, and I had a couple gears and connectors with it. I opened it up, and it was nicely packaged. But, this thing is not much bigger than a Mamba motor, and not much heavier either.

Needless to say, looks can be deceiving! I geared this at 12/46 (37 mph) since it is a higher kv than the XL motors I was running. I only got to run it for about 15 min just before dark, but I am impressed! Speed seems about the same as the 7XL and the acceleration seems about the same as the 8XL! In fact, this is the first time that the acceleration seemed "out of control" (like MM 5700 on 3s in my MT2). It was even starting to lift the front end up under hard acceleration (never did that before). That could also have to do with the lighter weight or the Road Rages breaking in, as well as the motor. I did hard speed runs and full throttle starts (hard braking too) for the 15 min, and temps were 150 for motor (no heatsink) and 150 for Mamba (no fan). Of course it is too soon to get a feel for "real temps" without more running, but the XL motors would be about 170 - 180 under same hard running (with Monster heatsink). And Mamba would be about 160 - 170. Even low speeds were great, with excellent throttle control throughout the range. I could always go about walking pace or a bit slower with the XL motors, but this motor can even go at about a snails pace. And of course, not a spec of cogging!

All in all, this motor may prove to be more well balanced with the Mamba Max and the 5000 mah lipo (lipo also ran cooler). I am also hoping to see more run time; I was getting 20 min with the 7XL. Guess I should save the rest for when the #%*@! rain quits and I actually get some run time on it!
