MGM9032 PC Issue

Hi.
i've had a scoot through the search returns but seems that while there have been problems, the resolution remains elusive.

I bought the MGM9032 From RCM along with the USBCOM+ and data cable.

Now, the PC recognises the USBCOM unit but the ESC remains offline no matter what i try.

I've tried it with the ESC on/off, with the battery pack connected/disconnected and also only with radio power.
I switched across to a different PC.
I downloaded the latest Version as well as the 1.0 version just for kicks.

The controller program sees the USB device but not the ESC.

The instructions are no use really, full of double negatives and awful Chinlish grammar

It's killing me. Should I return the USBCOM device to RCM, the data cable, the ESC or all three?

Please save me from impending insanity !
