Possible Hyper 7/Novak conversion

So I got everything together and gave it a test run. Went well with the 13/46 gearing, plenty of power and the motor and esc got warm, but not hot. I would guess that it is running near or over 40mph.

Now for the bad part, I snapped the shaft, right where it is turned down to 1/8". That sucks.

However, I had my machinist friend take a look at it and he seemed to think that it could be fixed. So he gave me a section of steel bar that is slightly larger than 5mm. I will clamp that and the shaft into a v block and weld them back together. And then he will turn it back down to 5mm. I know that the hacker motor shafts are made of some really hard steel, hardened all the way thru. So hopefully my miller mig welder can weld the two materials together well.

I will take some pics tomorrow of the shaft before and after welding!

So I had a c50 L can motor laying around that I got cheap, due to the previous owner not knowing what wind it is. Threw it in the hyper with the mm and 4s worth of trakpower lipos. Tried a 14t pinion first. Wow, really fast, like 50mph! But it thernmalled the mm. So I stepped down to a 12t pinion, smallest that I can fit without modding the motor mount. Much better, plus I added a fan to the mm. Temps after 20min were 150 on the motor, 130 on the esc, and about 110 on the lipos.

This motor must be a 8l, so rpm is around 45k. Incredible power, especially from half throttle and up, usually when the slower turning motors are running out of power/torque. This motor just seems to build power the faster it spins. The temps suprised me, as I expected to cook something!

I will mod the motor mount so that I can fit a 10t pinion. That will be as small as I can go before the motor can hits the rear center driveshaft. I think an 11t pinion will be perfect for this combo, but want to be able to fit a 10 too.

The hyper really handles well, especially considering the weight.

I will post some pics of the current setup. I still need to move the servo so that the linkages are parallel, and make a cf servo plate.

Speaking of the servo, I am running a MG995 servo that cost $22 a pair! Great performance on 6v from the ubec, I would recommend this servo! For 11 bucks you cannot go wrong. Just as good as my hitec 645 and digital 5245.
